This is on a b18a1... does this information help any?
I myself think its the valve seals, because if it were the piston rings wouldnt it smoke all the time? I just dont want to pull the head and replace the valve seals when it could be something else. I just need some backup info before I do anything drastic.

then why bother asking us? do you know what a leak down test is? it can be done for little to no money. good luck replacing your valve seals.

Basically the cylinder is filled with compressed air and you have a guage hooked up to the line and see how much leaks trough.
Thats what i found out by browsing trough a few threads

Ok well i didnt do the leak down test, I just took the head off and took it to a machine shop by me. They are going to inspect it first to see if the guides were bad or if the seals got hard/cracked, then they are going to call me back. The pistons look pretty good they dont really have much carbon on them, just dark from all the miles and over the years. All 4 cylinders still have the factory cross hatching too.

on old motors, you might get some white smoke at high rpms, but it looks like your rings are shot
you can run it for a while, if you don't beat on it

Why would my rings be shot? I dont understand....this motor only has 75k on it, just from sitting for a year and a half?
Edit: The motor came from my friends friend's 93 integra LS with 75k, the teg was totaled so my friend scooped it up for a good price and he had it in his garage for about a year sitting there because he was planing on building it and boosting it, until I decided to buy it and it sat for another 6 months.

your pcv valve may look fine but it might be frozen on the inside. had the same problem, spent $3 on a pcv valve and the problem was solved(b16a motor only had alittle over 50,000mi on it.).
