Type S gears in a Base prelude tranny. Possible??
Hi, I have a 98 base lude, the european modification. And I have recently found out that not only did we europeans get a weaker engine (185 crank hp against 195), but we also got the worst tranny of all. Its M2V5, which has a 4.062 final drive (all the other gear ratios are the same as for the USDM base model). As a result, I am planning on seiously modding my tranny. I already have OBX LSD, and I am planning to buy ATS 4.7 final drive (I received an answer from ATS that it will be out for Preludes some time towards the end of this year).
Also, I thought of putting 2nd and 3rd gears out of Type S M2P4 tranny to get the ratios closer. And also use 0.812 5th gear from Euro R T2W4 tranny to allow for highway cruisng.
So I wanted to know if anyone has ever done that and if that is at all possible.
Thanks.

i know for a fact that the type-s gears fit in a 4th gen casing...5th gen, i don't know. but you say you can get euro-r gears; those would be your best bet.
and my $.02 for the LSD: RETURN IT! send that sucker back and get a quaife or a cusco or a kaaz or even the factory type-s one. anything is better than that. no go hating, it's just my $.02. i'd recommend doing some searches on here about that diff before putting it in...some bad mojo is going around with those things.

And regarding that LSD, yes I did a search and read about all the problems with OBX. However here (in Estonia, former Soviet Union) there is not much choice of aftermarket parts for japan cars and the prices are ridiculously high due to customs fees and shipping costs. I am even a bit ashamed to tell you the price I paid for that OBX LSD shiped to my house
, it was almost 800 USD. So the quaife would be twice as much
As a result I have to stick with the crappy OBX.

Well, we do have some good things here also - so no plans to move yet
Does at least anyone else have some experience with that? We have no Type S preludes here at all, so I can not check if it will fit. The only thing I can do is just order the parts and see if they fit. However, if they don't I will be stuck with them, as there is no one here to sell them to.
Please help me out with that.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I see. Thanks for your help iakona
I think I will go for that, and let you all know how it went.
