d series starter...all the same?
i am going to the junkyard tom to see if i can pick up a used starter for my d16y7, but i want to know if any sohc d series engine starter will work for my 96 civic?

If you take the base, motor of a auto starter, you can fit it in a manual gearset, but you will need to extend the wire.
I know because I tried, however the gears don't quite mesh up.
I did this and it worked for a good 3-5 months until the auto finally gave up because the gear space is TIGHT
