selling my R and about to get TSX or TL
My car might very well be sold by the end of this week and I"m looking into getting a black 2003 3.2 TL Type S or a 04 TSX. If anyone owns or owned any of these two please let me know how you like it. I want a car that'll allow me to ride around in luxury without having to worry about theft. I"m leaning towards the 260 hp Type S. I just wanted to see what car the other R owners would pick. Thanks.
I'm looking at the older model 3.2 TL not the newly designed TL.

IMO stay away from American made TL.
Almost all auto trans were replace under warranty or just install oil jet for 2nd gear if it was damage yet of cooking 2nd gear due to lacking in lubricant.
One of my GM leased a 05TSX and it's our taste of harder suspension and steering response since he complain of harshness! Good project to make it back to what it suppose to be in JDM.

Of the two choices you have, I would prefer the TSX.
It's a more responsive vehicle over all, easier to drive if you're accustomed to the DC2 ITR, and there isn't a lot to worry about with theft. That huge train wreck has allowed the K24A2 USDM motor, brand new, to be sold for as little as $1500 so people aren't stealing cars for the swaps. The swaps are also a lot more work than putting a B18C5 into an EG.
The only thing I find missing on the TSX is a Torsen axle. If you're likely to want to autocross or track the car, you can keep your eyes open for a JDM Torsen axle for just a few hundred dollars, or a Quaife can be had from HT sponsors for as little as $825.
That's all I would add to the TSX to have just about a perfect small car that's not stolen too much and is easy on the fuel budget while also providing some entertaining driving.
Your TL choice in the years you have is just too big for my taste, and it'll be hard to find a four door with a six speed.

honda is very good about taking care of the tranny problems.

Sold my R 3 weeks ago abd Bought a 2005 TSX. I like it a lot. It needs some modification to cap off the fun factor but needs to be well thought out to prevent losing the luxury aspect.
I have to agree with George that the LSD is ket coming from an R.
Her is a short list of parts to consider
A-Spec Shocks and Springs (Or other mild option)
Swaybar (Comptech makes a nice one)
New Tires
Intake
Hondat Reflash (Not available for 2005 models yet)
Limited Slip Diff
This should make the car a lot more fun while keeping it civilized.

Would you happen to know how many TSXs were totaled in that train wreck?? I have heard quite a few people speak of it and the availability of the 2.4l as a result of it.

There actually was a train wreck and some TSX's were damaged. The motors were being sold in the classifieds section a little while back.

My gf just bought a brand new TSX and I don't like it at all. The body panels seem cheap and flimsy, especially when shutting doors. Does anyone else get the impression? Unless you are going to do alot of motor mods it is very underpowered in my mind.
I on the other hand just picked up a 2002 TL-S and I love it. Its definetly more luxury and can't be whipped around like a TSX, but it has a ton more power. A few suspension mods could bring the handling to a much better level.
The tranny problem is covered through 100K miles now and they are very good about taking care of you at the dealerships if you blow out a tranny. I also think the problem is a little over-exaggerated, not everyone is going to have a problem with the transmission.
Just my two cents

I have the CL Type-S, and the engine is great, tons of torque, quite a change from the R. The tranny issue is something to consider, but it wasn;t an issue for me since I picked up the 6 speed manual, the manual has not had any problems.
It's a nice, luxurious ride, and still has a bit of tossability, which can be improved upon is one does a little suspension work. I like the interior and appointments, it's a very satisfying highway car.
The reason I went for the '03 CL is that I simply cannot stand 4 door cars (hit my head on the B pillar, etc.), never owned one, never will.

TSX....for sure vs TL.
Can't deny the K series engine. vs the 3.2v6. It's more fuel efficient, weighs less, lower cost of maintence, and has far greater potential on the aftermarket side. Good luck on your decision.

haha.yea that's why i was considering getting the big body TL over the TSX. The price for a used TSX is still kinda high, but i'm seriously looking into both.
although it doesn't seem like you're looking into buying one knew here are the changes to the '06 TSX.

american 3.2cl\3.2tl = transmission problems (i replace them all the time) and EGR problems. Not to mention specific years had shift interlock issues among other things.
04 tsx = trunk wiring harness and camber issues on the pass. rear wheel. also had some audio unit problems.
stick with an 06 tsx = 15 more hp.
