Default clutch slave replacement

does anything need to be removed from the engine bay before removing the clutch slave cylinder?

it looks kind of tight to get tools in there and to remove/replace it..

nope, just get a line wrench, and its easy. even without one its easy. i did mine in an hour with an adjustable wrench, and i have full AC and everything.. just the two bolts on the front and the line on top

i didnt know what size that bolt was on the clutch line that goes into the slave cylinder

i came home with a 10mm flare wrench and 9mm open ended. hopefully one of those will do?

i think it is a 10. or a 9... so your good either way, since you have both
and then i think the two bolts on the top are 12's...

haha dude as i was doing this this morning, i was thinking to myself "WTF this guy said this was supposed to be an easy swap!"

i have big hands and it was a pain in the *** trying to compress the cylinder and get the bolts in at the same time. i think i got lucky and the hole lined right up.

its not as hard as people make it out to be, just take out the fan, and bam, you have plenty of room to work with

yea you are exactly right.

if i knew how to remove those fans in the front i wouldve saved half the time! matter of fact, i would say that most car maintenance isnt that difficult, but half the time you lose is becuase

1. working at **** angles
2. fitting hands/tools into small areas
3. dropping tools/bolts and getting them out

god damnit.

my clutch slave cylinder is going out on me, or at least I think it is. I am losing fluid and sometimes when I press on the clutch it will stay down to the floor and i have to pull it up with my feet. Is that a problem that the slave cylinder would cause? or is it something bigger?

Also, Can someone post pix of where the cylinder is on a 4th Gen? I want to do it myself and not pay to have it done.

anthony, that could be any part of the clutch hydraulic system causing that, check the master cylinder, the line all the way from it, across the firewall, down to the damper, from there to the top of the trans, and then down to the slave (black thing with line into the top) on the front of the transmission....

If I keep my clutch fluid full it doesnt do it, and I have no problems. Its only when I lose the fluid, thats when my clutch will stick.

yes, which would indicate that you have a leak somewhere that needs to be fixed

of course the pedal sticks when you lose fluid dude, read up on basic hydraulics

I understand the basics of it. I was just adding more info to maybe get some additional help.

The leak is on the passanger side. I will try and trace all the lines and try to see if I can locate the leak...But I havent been successful yet.

defenitly sounds like either your master or slave cyclinder is leaking. Either way, you should change them both out

That and because the master will now be the weak point in the system (If it hasent been recently changed). Better to change them both at once so you dont have to bleed again.

I have looked at my slave cylinder now and I dont see any fluid around it. I am seeing the fluid farther back...If you look at the vtec sileniod and then look straight down...I am seeing fluid there...I don't know where that could be coming from...any other suggestions?

what would be symptoms that you need to change the cylinder? lately it's getting harder to put it in 1st or 3rd gear for me

I had fluid leaking in the cabin (down the back of the clutch pedal) and some leakage around the clutch cylinder as well..never really felt that bad when I used it, just noticed fluid on the pedal.

tried to take the damn cotter pin out and some sadistic bastard put the thing in upside down (so the rounded end is toward the dashboard, instead of toward the floor so you can grab onto it and yank)

besides putting the old cyl. back on, anyone have any ideas to get the damn cotter pin out????
