differences in intakes?
if all intakes or most is created equal like some honda tech fans would say why would someone pay two or three hundred for one if all it does is the same thing? why not just get one from ebay for a minimal amount of money? is it just for the name brand?
Are you actually seeking technical/dyno information regarding various intakes? But you seem already convinced that they do the same thing; And intake is an intake. So if you're just philosophizing about the reasons why people by into name brands vs. generic, then perhaps this question belongs in the General Discussion forum and not in this Tech forum.
But I digress. To partly answer your question, people have their reasons- For looks, for "JDM"ness, or maybe for peace of mind some people possess which comes from having an intake from a "name-brand" company that has put forth the time, money, knowledge and effort into the phase of engineering called Research and Development to pick up the three or four extra HP (or less?) advantage over the intakes which were constructed with a saws-all and designed on a used napkin after dinner at McDonald's.

most definitely worth not getting **** (and by ****, I mean fix-it-ticket) for not having the carb stamp.

i bought a aem CAI for like 150. i duno why i bought it, just for looks i guess. if i could go bakc i would get custom piping and K&N filter. like 40 bucks only, i would be 110 bucks richer.
also there are a few different designs when it comes to intake which make a difference. . My personal favorite would be the J's racing carbon fiber intake or the look a likes also better known as "The Whale *****"
import tuner did actual test on different intakes on the rsx. some gave more hp and some gave more tq. some intakes actually give more power. and yes the carb thing especially in cali. im in florida so i really dont give a ****.

not necessarily like i said some of the intakes performed better than others. and the ones that didnt perform the best were more expensive.
