Simply put, "yes." But I suppose it depends what you consider "major." It's nothing like a K20 swap, if that's what you mean.

But out of curiosity, why are you doing this? I'm not hating on your project. Just curious. Also you might note that putting an older motor into a newer car is illegal usually.

the 97 ex motor is a more powerful, cleaner burning, newer motor.

aside from that it's against laws in most states to have a motor that's older than your car inside of your engine bay.

Hence, me wondering why he wants to put a 91 CRX motor into his 97 car. Read.

for reasons stated above.

1.) It's an old *** motor.
2.) It's OBD0 so it's not a plug up drive off deal
3.) It uses a cable tranny
4.) D16Y8 is faster than D16A6(??)
5.) The motor is gonna need to be rebuilt probably
6.) Emissions laws state that you cannot have a motor that is older than your car inside of the engine bay

can you come up with any reasons as to why it would be a good thing to do?

He probably has it sitting around or can get it cheap to replace his broken engine. That's my guess anyways.

Advice: Find a D16Y8 if your going to stay with D-series, don't settle for anything else.

yeah. If your car is broken and you need a motor in it right now then just save up for just a y8 long block. You can get it for dirt cheap, trust me. When you do it right the first time around you'll be glad. If you don't then you'll regret it once the a6 rings go bad and you burn oil, blow a head gasket, need a new water pump, etc etc. and then you'll be doing this all over again and wishing you woulda gotten a y8

well i have a z6 from a 93 del sol si in my engine bay, and my del sol is a 95... but i also dont have a cat

and all my rx-7 buddies have no emissions at all. all of theyre cars shoot flamesa nd when you are in a 30 foot radius of any of their cars, all you can smell is carbon. and it smells sooo tasty... i love it here

fort wayne indiana doesnt enforce emissions at all

(this is a pointless post... but i just thought id brag )

lol you ******.

There are some places in WA where they dont require emissions. They are mostly the farm lands. I've heard rumors of people getting P.O. boxes out in the farm lands and then registering the car to the P.O. box in order to avoid emissions. =P
