Deal's Gap Pictures
Saturday, I put on a new Pilot Power tire on the rear, and headed out to the Gap.
It was a great day for riding.

Not all out, but you'd be surprised at how fast that was in reality. The curve there are pretty sharp at times. I was riding hard enough that day that I wore the chicken strips off a brand new tire, and was leaving some black streaks comming out of some turns.
However...it seems that the corners they set up for pictures always seem to be corners that I don't hit very fast. I guess it's because they like the corners that allow them to snap a few shots, and I prefer the tighter ones that they'd not get much time for pictures on.

- I really need to get down there sometime.
- Jeans have no place at the gap.
- You're really hugging the yellow line. Careful or you'll have your head taken off by a mirror or go head to head with someone drifting over the yellow.

Do you know how good/bad my viewpoint was through the rest of that turn? What's the big deal about getting NEAR the yellow line?
I go to the Gap about 2-4 times a month. I can assure you that I know when it's safe to cross the yellow and when it's not.
Please...find something better to do than to criticize me.

If you post your pictures in an internet discussion forum, expect to get opinions you don't like as well.
I don't think jeans have any place in spirited riding since they provide next to no protection in a crash. To many people wear them and expect them to do something they won't. I try to let people know that whenever I can. Personally I don't care if you ride naked, but I'll still say you should be wearing protection.
It's a good idea to form the habit of never riding close to the yellow line. That way the time you aren't mentally focused going into that blind turn you don't accidently put your head in the way of a pickup's mirror.
I think your own pictures illustrates why you shouldn't get near to the yellow line. Since you're leaning into the turn, most of your upper body is actually over in the other lane. At that point a car wouldn't even have to cross over into your lane to hit you. Plus, cars and especially trucks drift over the line it turns way to frequently.

The Gap's near the Dragon's Tail right? We went on that and I can assure you I do not think it is safe going over the yellow line on the Dragon's Tail. I saw a semi with a trailer in the complete other lane. I also saw several motorcycles hauling some serious *** on that road.

He's fine in that pic. Going in that direction, there's plenty of forward visibility for oncoming traffic. It's going the other way that it's a bit more blind.

I've seen that happen about 20 yards in front of me. R6 vs zx6, head on collision, it wasn't pretty.

I prefer to make it a habit to treat every turn individually...since they are all different.

Maybe you're not very good at viewing a 2d picture, and determining the third dimension (depth). NO PART OF MY BODY OR MOTORCYCLE WAS OVER THE LINE. Further, this was not a blind corner. It is one of the longer curves at the Gap. That is probably why killboy and his cohorts choose to setup there so often.

Chances of an accident are probably one in a hundred thousand. Chances of eye damage from welding without proper protection is unavoidable. In other words, welding without eye protection is about like leaving the house without full leathers and a helmet...knowing that it's the day you will have an accident.

Yeah? You're a ******* genious!! I never said I was a pro rider, or even that I had the bike leaned over. Have you ever heard of "setting up for a corner?" You know...you sometimes get off the bike more than you need to at that time...because you are getting ready for what's comming up.

Grow up, kids! Your mother is still waiting for it to happen.

lol Nah, I was a passenger in my cousin's RX-8. We were hauling *** though. I know in some corners we were going as fast or faster than a bike could go. It was scary but fun at the same time. When I saw that 18-wheeler on there I was like WTF?!!!!! He was completely over the lane on a blind curve. I think they should be outlawed from driving on that road. Dangerous as ****. That road's awesome though.

Yeah, there are some definite advantages that a car has on a road like that. They have much more rubber on the road for increasing or decreasing speed. Also, it's easier to be a fast car driver than it is a fat motorcycle rider.
I rode on the weekend the Miatas were up there. I only encountered one that could keep up with me. I waved him by to see if I was really holding him up. I wan't. He couldn't lose me. There was a Corvette there with him that was driving the same pace.
I think that the semis are banned from being there. I think signs on the way up tell them not to drive there. It's rare that they go there, as most know they can't make it through.

Yeah, there are advantages. The owner of the RX-8 used to have a R6 and a Gixxer 1000 that he had ridden on that same road. He said overall the bike would have won because of the power in the straights but he said in a lot of the corners he couldn't go as fast as we were going in the car for the reasons you stated. Plus that RX-8 eats the corners up. It was fun. Gets a little nerve racking being a passenger on a drop off mountain corner with the tires screaching though.
