A/C problem
Hi guys/gals.
I went to a local shop to have my car serviced for the air conditioner. For some reason it just stopped being cold so I figured they would just pump freon and I'd be on my way.
Well after I got my car back it felt weird. As if the car was hesitating and the ac was nowhere near as cold as before. About a week later the a/c stopped being cold. I figured I had a leak so I didn't bother to think anything else. I bring it back and they pump it up again. The next day its not cold anymore.
I have my friend take a look at it and guess what? 90 % R-134 and 7.6 % R12!!!! How can that be?>?? Damn shop pumped my **** with R-134 instead of R12!! Any ideas on how this can be fixed? And does that mean my system is complete FUBAR'd?
BTW its a 93 DX coupe.

they are the ones that fucked up. tell them to vacuum out the system and put the right **** in there. I wouldn't care if they had to replace they're vacuum pump, it's their own damn fault
to that shop

Vacum the a/c system n then replace it with R-12,run the car for atleast 3 miles n turn on the a/c after that the a/c will work if it doesnt that means that your a/c lost compression that means that it would only throw cold air when the car is running...good luck

Just curious... how did your friend determine that?

When you mix the two like that it causes proplems with the oil, for some reason it turns it from a liqued to more of a gel like substance and clogs either the condesor or the evap. One of the two I forget which, its the one with the smaller passages and needs to be replaced along with some other misc parts. So have them vac it out asap and have them put the right stuff in there and who gives a **** about them? if there that worried pump the **** into a seperate container so it wont contaminate there stuff. Simple as that.
Sorry I took so long to post. I've been really busy with work and school..name software builds
but anyway for the guys that asked me how i got the numbers. My friend attends UTI and took my car there. He was going to recharge the freon for me but wanted to run a few diagnostics first. About the shop, I finally have time this weekend so I'll let you know how that goes.

That still doesn't explain what he did to get those numbers. Really curious what was done to determine percentages of different gases in a system. Perhaps you could ask him what diagnostics he did?
