Default Idle issue, drops to perfect idle once I remove ANY plug wire, PLEASE look

heya i'll try and make this quick. got a crazy idle in the 1500 2000 range.

#1 cylinder above spark plug was filled with water. Sprayed water out, spark plug wire was shot so i replaced. What i noticed is when I pull the wire out the car goes to perfect idle. Before replacing thats what i thought the idle problem was, just it missfiring. But, i try #2 cylinder and pull that out and it drops to perfect idle. So no matter what plug wire I pull out it drops to a good idle. I checked firing order, tried a whole new set of wires and it still idles around 1500-2000 rpm. Can't tell you exactly cus no tach. Could it be distrubtor? The owner steamed the engine so I imagine thats how the water got in, could it have possibly damage the dizzy too? help?

I doubt the distributor is causing a high idle problem. You probably have some extra air getting in somewhere.

im guesstimating. it's not too hard to guess. it's high, thats all that matters. extar air could cause it? hmmm i'll have to take a look at it

everytime u pull a spark plug wire out the idle drops cuz it's only running on 3 cylinders versus 4.

adjust, your idle, there's a flat head screw on the throttle body, tighten it see what happens. i had the same problem recently, changed my pcv valve and took care of the problem. you might want to check or just replace, its like $3 at the parts store.

also check all vacuum hose, maybe one broke and needs to be replaced.

When the engine is warmed up, its sitting still at 1500-2000 rpms, as opposed to hunting around? That sounds like a misadjusted throttle stop screw. Have you messed with that particular screw? I say its that screw because if its warmed up and the idle isn't bouncing, that would tell me the TPS is showing an open throttle so it doesn't activate the fuel cut on decel strategy the ECU uses to save fuel/cut emmissions.

As Chiovnidca said, you've got some excess air. Whether its because the throttle plate is slightly open or the IACV is stuck open or there is a tear in a gasket....you've got extra air.

You can also take off the IACV, Make sure everything looks good inside of it, the screen, etc.

Still water in there?

Report? Get it fixed? We like to know the cause of the problems if its fixed. Helps others when they search.

well there was 2 empty ports. one is on the bottom of the Intake Manifold ont he lower right, shooting back towards the firefall. It's sucking a LOT of air in, no hose so i taped it up for now. It helped the idle come way down, but it still fluctuates. There is also a nozzle with no air gonig in or out on the top of the TB. any help?

How big is the nipple thats open on top of the throttle body? Its probably the one that runs to your fuel pressure regulator.
