Is this more than a gasket prob???
Yes, the green stuff should clean it. Just cover your distributor to keep moisture from getting in there and try not to get it in the spark plug holes. If it does get in the hole then you'll have to blow the water out with compressed air.
Definately get a valve cover gasket kit (has the 1 gasket that goes around the cover and 4 gaskets that go around the spark plug holes) and a new cam plug seal.

a less than five minute fix....
Consider perhaps a metal end plug, won't wear out as fast as a OEM plastic one - STR and Golden Eagle make them, cost ~$20 on ebay. Get the rest from Acrua or your choice of auto house. Easy fixes
