Default Wideband users: A/F @ idle?

I am just wondering where your A/F usually is when your car is at operating temperature and is idleing - Yesterday for the first time my car was fluctuating from mid 19s to Lean @ idle which it has never done before - I was thinking weather could be a cause, but it has been MUCH hotter and humid lately and it has never idled lean - I am just wondering WTF if going on? I have a PLX M300 BTW

I've got a Techedge 2.0, and normally it bounces around mid 14s to mid 15s. But with the heat lately it's been pretty lean, like upper 16 to 17. I just blip the throttle to make myself feel better

I run my AF at 13.9 at idle.

I run 14.7ish to 16. About what I run for crusing AFRs. When its hot out and car is hotter.. it tends to stay on the richer side.

I've seen good stable idles from 14.0 - 16.0 AFRs on Hondas

At idle, you dont have to worry about lean detonation or pre-ignition though.

I usually shoot for the most stable at the leanest amount for fuel efficiency.

Well, I guess my question is am I harming anything by the car running this lean? While normal driving I am about at 13-14 and under boost it stays in the 11s - And also how much of an effect do climatical changes have on the A/F ratio?

At idle there are very low cylinder pressures, and with it that lean the egt`s would be low too. I wouldn`t worry about it its not going to hurt anything, it will just not idle very smooth

my engine is nonvtec with a lopey camshaft. at 14.7 at idle it idled really rough. After a lot of playing around i now run my car at 13.2:1 AFR at idle. Idles a lot smoother now and doesn't smell toooo bad... At 1st i said to myself, this seems too rich... but after thinking about it with our carburated, big cam, V8 race/streetcars we run them even richer then that at idle, so its all good.

robbie,

when i tuned your car in june i set it at 15.5-16.0:1 af.

im on my cell phone so this will be short...

cold air is more dense than hot air. so in a colder climate you have more air entering the cylinders. more air than before means a leaner af ratio. vice versa for hot air.

No IAT correction?

Right, no problem I am not complaining about the tune - I have done little things to the car that can throw off the tune, and I am wondering if my A/F is ok @ idle.

And at the time the car was tuned, I had no IAT sensor in place, so I am sure that is a big part of it.

mine starts at 11.0 till closed loop then goes to 14.7. But then again i have removed my cold idle valve too. Prolly makes a difference

i cant get mine to idle stable at 14.7:1 (uberdata and 750cc injectors )

it bounces around from 13.5-14.3:1 which is good enough i guess.

14.7 is what "tuners" say it has to be........ok, fine, but like a few people have mentioned, you cant really hurt anything at idle. if it sounds like it's idling happy, then it's good. if it's a little lean, all you're really doing is conserving a little gas.

thats my take on the subject

my a/f's at idle fluxuate anywhere from 13's to 16's its an untuned idle and part thottle and a tuned full throttle.

i am running uberdata and it wouldnt run right with closed loop enabled so my tuner sent me a chip with closed loop disabled and it runs pretty damn good but it needs to be tuned and adjusted to make it more smooth but i've got another engine going in soon so i'm not too worried about it..

btw.... 700th post for me

My car seems to idle best at 13.9. So I give it what it likes. It will idle at 14.5-14.75, but it is just not as smooth of an idle.
