Default Spoon lower front tie bar

I might of made a mistake in getting this bar. It feels really good but every time i go to check the damn thing the bracket is bent. Anyone else have this problem at all? I had to use a few washers so it hangs a little lower than usual (due to aftermarket DC JDM header). Car is not lowered although i was planning on getting the Spoon springs.

I use the Cusco Model, It gets chipped and stuff, But its under the car I dont expect it to stay perfect.
I'm also working on a 4 point lower bar

Why are the brackets bending, Is it hitting something, Hanging to low?

this is sorta OT.. but i got my spoon front and rear strut bars..
i installed the rear one, then took it just the bar out to cut holes in my panels... then i tried to put the bar back.. now it seems too short.

anyone else have this problem? perhaps my frame flexed or something..
would putting my rear on jacks help a little?

You have to install it with the bar on the mounting peices otherwise it won't fit. You also need to jack up the car when installing it to let the suspension hang.

Putting it on jackstands would probably help.

Loosen the bolts for the mounting brackets and bolt the bar in loosely, then tighten everything down.

Mike: yeah it is hanging a little low. I used too many washers. When i first installed it with no washers it was hitting the header every time i accelerated and the motor would torque and hit the bar which was only a few mm away. I then put some washers in there for it to hang lower. I guess it is a little too low. Now that i put the motor mount inserts in i might try to use only 1 or 2 washers instead of 6 or 7!!!!

If it is bent are you able to get it back to the original state? My guess would be that if it is bent that it will keep bending all time. Once a bar is bent it is hard to get it back to normal. That sucker is hanging down low though.

96 SOHC VTEC:

You are right. Driving on the street the bar hangs too low. Once i get the Spoon springs installed it will hang even lower. I plan on keeping the brackets on there and only having the bar on for track days. Before i put that into stone i am going to try a few more tricks to see if i can get the bar to raise up a bit and still clear the header and not be too low for speed bumps. peace

He's already bent the rear one from running over a dirt clod
He had to hit something harder than a dirt clod, The rear tie bar sits a bit higher than the OEM ITR one, Also the brackets pretty strong on it.

Do you have to clear an aftermarket header with your bar?

The only thing I worry about on the front tie bar is that if I bottom out and hit the bar hard enough, will the bar cause any serious damage to the header also?

yes that is a good possibility. i always drive slow over bumps and if i think i can't make it with the bar on then i wont go over it
