Tonite Show?
Anyone catch the Tonite Show with Jay Leno tonite? All three of the Hayden brothers were there, and it was a pretty cool interview. They had clips of all of them, and some of their get-off's, and what's goin on through their minds at 200mph, etc.
Anyways, just a pretty cool interview, and Leno was hella cool with all of them.
Am i the only one that saw it?

Yeah I stayed up to watch it and I thought it was pretty darned cool. It was nice to see Jay pumping up the sport. Hopefully stuff like this will turn more people on to the sport. Now all we need is for Brad Pitt to start showing up regular at the track so that the celeb magazines start picking up on it.

ESPN doesn't have the rights to show AMA or Moto GP races. They could however, show it on Sportscenter from time to time but to be fair, Sportscenter is pretty hard pressed to fit all of the sports into their broadcast as is.
ESPN really should cover more racing but they just lost Supercross to Speed so who knows if that is a direction they even care about. There certainly are a lot of opportunities for Speed to pick up some good series.
OT but the X Games Supermoto race is this Sunday on ESPN at 4:30 EST. It conflicts with the WSBK race on Speed so I'll Tivo/Tape the WSBK race since Supermoto will be live. EBoz will be racing and I thought Jake Zemke was supposed to be out there too but I don't see his name on the list anymore. Either way should be a great race, they made it longer this year and added a pit stop.

It pretty cool to see the footage of the race where Roger beat Tommy on the 600's since I was at that race.

It was also cool to see the Kawi's go 1,2,3 = 95,1,12.</TD></TR></TABLE>
It's good that Jay is helping to bring motorcycling into the limelight but he was pretty ignorant about them. His questions were so very general and not articulate.

dang, missed it.
nicky hayden's been getting a lot of press lately, being named one of the most eligible bachelors in people magazine (i believe). it's good to see him finally getting up there, finishing 3rd in germany.

Anyone know if it will re-air anytime soon or if there is a way of telling? A chance anyone taped it?

Its hard to blame him really. For him to ask technical or very targeted questions would kind of be a disservice to the general audience who doesn't know much about the sport at all. Now had that been Greg White on TWT asking those questions it would be a different story.
Hard to say how knowledgeable Jay is about the sport but on Superbikeplanet one of the writers was saying how Jay tried to get Kevin Schwantz on the show back in 93...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">And, too, it shows that times have indeed changed. In late 1993, I asked motorbike fan Jay Leno if there was any chance that he could have then world champion Kevin Schwantz on The Tonight Show to talk about his world championship and GP racing. Leno asked his bosses, who, according to Leno, only wanted to know if Schwantz was a "jumper" like Evel Knievel and if he could perform those stunts on the show. If he could, they'd consider it. If not, then the answer was no.</TD></TR></TABLE>
So yeah, could've been better but considering the show, the audience, and the amount of time for the interview it wasn't bad.

No way! It was bad. He could've asked questions that actually might make the general public more interested in these guys
1st of all, all 3 are brothers. Which could get interesting for all the young ladies watching. And all are amazingly good at it. He showed clips of the AMA races but nothing from the grand MotoGP races of Nicky. He could've brought the whole MotoGP into the scheme of things by comparing it's popularity it Europe and Japan to the maybe basketball and compare the popularity of its athletes to those of the NBA and how some of them get mobbed around town.
And he didn't even mention the Laguna race. As you know, that race was the 1st American GP in so many years and to have them bring it back to the states is an unbelievable achievement. And Jay should've talked about Rossi and how dominant he is but how Nicky checked out on him at Laguna for the win.
It can go on and on and even the general US public would understand and maybe pique some interest into the sport.
That show was wack!

What questions did Leno ask?</TD></TR></TABLE>
lol, Jay was like, I know you guys go 200mph and one of my friends was riding the Bonneville salt flats and at 220 his hand was hurting so when he lifted it, the air threw him off and plow! And Nicky was like, uhhh we actually sit up at the end of a straight so that the wind would help us slow down.

Leno actually just said that the air threw his hand back, he didn't say it made him wreck. And Nicky wasn't like, "uhhh..." lol, calm down man.

He did bring up how much more popular it is everywhere but the U.S. and how the riders are superstars, Nicky even mentioned Spain, Italy, and Japan as having very hardcore fans.
They tried to relate AMA- North America / MotoGP - Entire world, but without the majority of people even knowing anything other than "Ninjas" are fast, it's hard to explain the differences in a short interview section. It could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse.

I think Leno knows more than he let on about racing, but on his show he has to entertain his audience. It would be pretty boring for most of the viewers if Jay and Nickey just sat there and talked shop. They wouldn't understand the conversation. You gotta remember that the NBC audience is much different than Speed's audience.
Anybody got a link to the interview for d/l??

i actually saw Jay a few times at the Rock Store here in the LA area. the times i've seen him, he's always brought some kind of vintage machine, be it a bike or car.
when he rides a bike, he's got this ancient, black shoei helmet, i'm talking like rf-200 or something like that with the gold letters. not only that, he'll ride up to the store, take off his helmet, answer questions about his machine, then take off back the way he came. he won't go up the twisities which is the whole reason for going to the rock store! (imho)
i like jay leno but i think he's more of a vintage collector than an enthusiast rider. that might explain the "lame" interview.
