Default Has anyone made over 200whp n/a through the muffler?

Has anyone made over 200 whp through an exhaust system? If so was it custom or off the shelf? What size was the piping? and what type of muffler? Sound and loudness is not a concern, but I prefer the fit of a japanese exhaust. Under consideration is the new 70mm T1-R.

Any type of bolts on is ok, the only restriction is running stock USDM/JDM B18C5 block, bore, pistons, and rods. I am not talking about CTR pistons, LS/VTEC etc.
Strictly OEM B18C5 block/head.

I know a few people have made 200whp on "stock block", but no one has mentioned if they ran that through an exhaust system.

Dyno graphs would be helpful

Nope, I haven't heard of anyone here using an exhaust to make 200 whp while being N/A.

using only an exhaust system to attempt to get 200 n/a power to the wheel? i wouldn't be convinced if someone said they did do it.

Alot of people make 200 N/A hp on a lot of dynoes with a lot of mufflers. I would just tag a universal indiglo tip on yours though. Should be good for 225 hp plus on your setup.

Dude, he cant make 225 with that. Maybe 215, but he needs the APC stickers for 225. Its just common sence.

Just about everyone uses an "exhaust" except for maybe buttnickel on track at Gingerman and at the dyno, but lets not go there ... and even he just bought a new "exhaust" recently to help get the full potential out of his Spec B's.

There's a lot of topics covered in the FAQ at the top of the ITR forum page, and you can get there using this link below. Have fun reading.

thanks, I have read everything in the faq regarding header/exhausts etc, one post SMSP quotes that 2.5" exhaust should support 225whp. I am looking for someone's dyno'd experience. A lot of things work in theory. Just want to know from someone who's "been there"

thanks

If you want to make 200whp with just bolt-ons, an exhaust system would be a manditory component. The 3 inch might be a little big. I run the 2.5inch and love it.

200whp with a stock block and head is possible. Choose your parts wisely and tune, tune, tune..........

Cams (I hear good things about ones like the Jun 3s), cam gears, valvetrain (due to the higher lift), a long tube 4-2 header (like the SMSP), a nice 2 1/2" exhaust (or something like the Fujitsubo (sp) or T1R), injectors, adjustable FPR, maybe an upgraded pump, and a "programmable/chipable" ECU should get you there.

But why? (yeah, silly question ... but really)

Drag race? Just to say you have 200 whp?
I'm just curious.

I figure I need about 200- 210 whp to be competitive with E46 M3, EVO 8, STi Etc.
For the future, I am planning a 2.0-2.1 L stroker motor with ITB's and Hytech header. I want to try to make as much power as possible with my current motor setup. OEM JDM B18C5.

A little bit of boost goes a long way, especially on an ITR motor.
A stock block/cams should be able to make and take 300 whp pretty easily with a good tune.

with 200whp you still will not be able to touch the cars you mentioned
maybe at a track its all driver.
but at drag racing or a freeway race a 200whp teg cannot come clost to stis and evos

i know cuz i have a 198whp lsvtec and its quite slow.

if you want to beet those cars boost is the only answer

Isn't Sakai over 300 n/a? It sure felt like it at 11k rpm

Speaking of which...anybody know if he's doing okay? I haven't talked to him in a long time??

I think you could get right up against 200 HP with a good exhaust, and stock internals, if you don't mind putting on some cam gears and going to a good tuning system.

The graph below was when my car was actually on stock internals, but with a Hondata and good tuning. The exhaust was a fully muffled 2.5" SMSP header and exhaust, including a converter, resonator and muffler.

My car has B16 pistons now, and the head has been slightly worked. However, Steve used a different "loading" dyno the last time the car was tuned, and the graph isn't easily understood by most of us who are used to looking at Dynojet figures. Extrapolating and estimating, however, the car in its current state of tune would not have more HP than is shown in that graph, because it was slightly down-tuned in order to extend the life of the motor a little bit.

I'm sure I'll still lose the motor sooner or later, but at this stage of the game the driver's still a bigger problem than the horsepower, so there's no point in going higher.

Anyway...I think you can get right up against 200 reliable wheel HP with stock internals, if you don't mind buying a computer and cam gears, and investing in a good tuner. And you'd still be able to use a relatively quiet exhaust that would not get you too much attention if you're still driving the car on the street.

Last time I saw Sakai he was driving Corey's turbodiesel, so I'm not sure. LOL.... His personal car is one of the new Legacy AWD 200HP cars.

He was talking about going to Japan to satisfy his parents, but I think he decided against doing it. He's still around.

He recently helped tune the old (250,000 mile) Accord that Corey used to win the H4 race at Shennandoah in June.

I don't think he's really soliciting business. Just got burned out, I think, not necessarily on the business itself but perhaps on all the shysters associated with the business.

Competitive where? There are road courses that are technical enough or with road vagaries that are so unusual that you might take the lead from those cars, but they are not normally classed with a DC2 ITR in a race, because they enjoy a tremendous theoretical advantage over the DC2 ITR.

You can catch an EVO or STi in the uphill section of Summit Point because they lose too much speed trying to stay off the gater before the left turn at 7. The ITR can hit that gater and stay settled, which puts you in fourth gear after that left. You're settled and in the torque band in a high gear going up the hill and they will panic and point you by on the right because they slowed too much at the end of the technical section and just aren't moving fast enough to stay ahead of you going up the hill, even with all that torque they have.

IMHO, your mileage may vary, standard disclaimer applies, user applies appropriate caution, and in the event of capture Her Majesty disavows any knowledge of the operation.

This is just in my experience.

I dunno. If you're thinking of spending all that money, you might want to research some of the K motor builds to see if that isn't a more logical choice in your particular situation. I'm not necessarily actually advocating that, because I'm still not sure of your application, but it seems to me you might want to research that.

Hytech vs SMSP headers...we could talk about that for a few hours and still not reach a definite conclusion. Since you were asking about quiet 2.5" exhausts for the initial build, maybe SMSP would be the better long term solution for you, because you'd be able to mate it to the exhaust you already have.

A 200whp ITR should have no problem keeping up with a stock EVO or STI in terms of straight line acceleration. I ran 13.7's with less than 173whp on street tires which is not very far off the average for most stock EVO's or STI's. Many others have ran similar times with around the same power.

But, yes I agree building your car to just compete with another car is a losing battle and it won't take much from either of the above cars to be demolishing a 200whp ITR. Figure out what will make the car fun to YOU. Somebody will always be faster.

With just exhaust mods my ITR pulled my friends EVO8 with exhaust. Near stock, they are not hard to mess with.

On the track it is purely driver, as the cars would be within seconds of eachother with professional drivers.

As for exhausts, with the 65mm T1R and JDM 4-1 I made considerable gains over stock. This dyno shows a before and after of the aforementioned setup, the baseline numbers are from the same day, same car.

I'm now running a Comptech Race Header which after tuning the VTEC crossover to a happy 5000rpm's, the powerband is very strong and smooth in the midrange. I did not do a before/after with the Comptech, but it definately brought up the midrange.

It would be hard to break 200whp with a stock block and no cams. Not saying its impossible, but your job would become much easier with a good set of cams.

My block says B18C5 and I have a full exhaust. I also have well over 200whp.

For all you guys dreaming about evos, they suck

Check out my sig, been there, done that.

All the modded evo guys are scared shitless of turbo hondas.

I have one of those coming. I just want to go fast in my DC2 chassis with the max reliablity.

Besides very few things sound better than a B series humming at 9k-10k

actually there is one... his name is Omniman and he did it on a B16 it made 205 whp if i am not mistaken. it can be done, he also just produced a video with Intertunetv that totally covers the B16 project with a How-To as well.

I am thinking if you apply those same principles to an R motor we will see huge gains.

The car was mildly modded, I think a computer, cam, rod bearings, header, head work.

THE SITE IS INTERTUNETV.COM you will get all the info you need there. The guy who is running the site and produced the videos is reachable here on this site at mikesarrgsr is his name just PM him and he will answer any questions you may have.

I made 217 with a stock ITR block and head (no port) throught the exhaust.....

the setup is a '00 JDM ITR wit a 1 piece head gasket, ARP headstuds, Buddy Club spec 4's,CTR N-1 Pulley, Portflow springs and retainers. The tranny is '00 Spoon ITR tranny with a 4.9 ATS final. Excedy thin sprung 6 puck and chromoly flywheel.
All tuned with a Hondata stage 2
The red line is the J's and the green line is the AEM

I coulda easily made more (2-3hp) too if I woulda added fuel above 8200 -8900rpm. The wide band showed it was way too lean. Shaun offered to tune it to the AEM but since I dont own one I left it tuned to the J's

your INSANE. My ITR was passing tons of modded Evo's, E36's, and turbod Supras at streets of willow. I'd pull them on the straights and they couldn't keep up in corners either. 200 whp in a light ITR track car is very quick IMHO
