Default Test Pipe, worth buying?

I found this test pipe at http://www.testpipes.com, what do you guys think?

Heres what they have to say about it.

Price $35.00

Shipping $ 10.00

Description 92 -95 INTEGRA TEST PIPE 2.50 " BOLT IN 5-15 + HP IN 15 MINUTES (NO WELDING) COMES WITH COMPLETE BOLT KIT ALL ALUMINIZED (NO RUST) WILL WORK WITH ANY STOCK OR CAT BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM.

Would it be worth buying to go with my 5 Zigen Fireball catback? WIll it really produce 5-15hp? Will it effect the sound of my exhaust?

How does it resonate like a cherry bomb when its just a stright peice of pipe? Or is it not just a stright peice of pipe?

It's a nice piece but you should probably put the head sink piece over that piece so that maybe you won't be involved in trouble

So will I really see those gains with a test pipe? Will it change the sound of my 5 zigen exhaust?

How much louder will it make it? How about w/ a reasonably quiet cat back like an ITR?

Being a resident of California I must say the emission laws here are quite strict. Take for instance last Saturday (2/16) I was driving down Colima in the city of Rowland heights then take a right onto Fullerton and about half a mile down they had a random smog check. They were smog testing every single car that traveled down that road and if you didnt pass, no questions asked your car would be towed they had a fleet of tow trucks lined up on the opposite side of the road. As soon as I saw that road block I made a U turn and got the fock outta there.

From what I understand about testpipes, you will not see a big increase based on the mods in your profile. It's really only when you get up so some high flkow (like a turbo) that it starts to pay off.

I will refrain from putting on my environmentalist hat, this time

Is there a difference in flow with a ITR Cat vs GSR cat?

In terms of price, it cant be beat.

You can get a Carsound Cat, however, that flows almost as many CFMs as a test pipe and actually burns cleaner than stock. For those of us who are paranoid, live in a strict area, dont want to risk it, or are environmentally concious, its without a doubt the way to go. We offer custom bolt-on Carsounds.

um, i dont know if you've taken physics ever, but if we are talking strictly performance , a test pipe will 100% always flow better than any hi-flow cat. think about it, stick nothing between point A. and point b. , then stick something, even the smallest thing in between, and it will restrict air flow. no hi flo cat will ever match the power a test pipe can give you, and when talking about high motor applications it is almost a necessity to pull all the power you producing. now if you are talking about smog and polution and what not, that's a different topic, i just dont want people thinking a hi flow cat will be 'just as good' as a test pipe.

my thoughts? pick up a test pipe for track days ( screw that, go open header ) for $40 who cares, but if you plan on 'street racing' then pick up a hi flow cat ( catco, $100 from summit ) or just deal w/ the smell. just beware of where you live. here in cincinnati, it aint no big thing. just dont be stupid about it. --later and good luck gentlemen.

I was checking out dyno results comparing test pipes to high flow cats, and test pipes were seeing gains of an average of 13hp@wheels on ITR's, and high flow cats were seeing around 10-11hp@wheels on ITR's. Now, I have travelled down to cali a few times and I was leaving an import show when a line of state patrol cops pulled over about 50 imports heading north on I-5 and they smog tested ever one, kinda like what the guy above said, but there was kinda no way to avoid this. About 15 cars out of the group were towed away. IMO, 2 hp is not worth having your car towed away for. If you live in Bobsville, Alabama, then you probably don't even have to worry about runnin around w/out headers, but I would stick the legal route and get either carsound cat or randomtech cat. Both produce around 10-11hp@wheels. I dont think that 2 hp is worth the risk, that is all. Let me take a look around again and I'll try and find the links to the test pipe vs cat dyno charts.

damn random smog testing points? damn i gotta stay away from Rowland heights then.... I live in California also.. i lived in Nor Cali for 4 years while i was at college.. and grew up and moved back to So Cali after i graduated.. i must say they are a lot more strict in So Cal especially near LA... they are pretty strict in fremont, milpitas and san jose tho..

I got pulled over in Pasadena, Ca going home and they had me pop the hood while his partner was looking to see i didnt do anything suspicious the other officer actually looked below (even though my car is dropped on eibach sportlines, and i have low profile tires) to see if i had a cat..

they wanted to hassle me on the exhaust.. but after showing them the greddy papers they let me go... but YES they do check for catalytic converters in Cali.. along w/ getting your car towed.. in cali you'd risk huge fines for violating emissions equipment, along w/ having to pay the fine, you have to pay the tow, bring your car back up to spec, etc...

if you live in a non emissions controlled area.. i guess you might consider this.. but i'd just get a high flow cat so i dont have to deal w/ all that.. not sure about your states laws tho.. this is California..

There was a test done (I forget by who) that was posted recently, where the Carsound Cat LITERALLY flowed almost as many CFMs as a test pipe. It translates to a negligible power difference.

Theres no question a Test pipe will flow more...I never said it did. Its the difference between the Test Pipe and Carsound that I brought up.

The catalytic converter is Federal Law. So you can get in trouble even if your state down have emission testing

I noticed alot of you guys are talking about getting pulled over and having your hood poped! Thats crazy, thats braking search and seziure laws. The only way a police officer can search your vehicle (including your engine bay) is with your permission or with a warrent. All you have to do is kindly refuse to pop your hood, especialy if you were stoped for somthing non related to them searching your car, like running a red light. Im not 100% sure the laws are the same every where about this, but im pretty sure, I remeber discussing it in one of my Law classes.

I don't plan on getting a test pip till I get a turbo.

Would it be worth buying to go with my 5 Zigen Fireball catback? WIll it really produce 5-15hp? Will it effect the sound of my exhaust?

Will this work with JDM headers w/ 2.5" collector? since they say it'll bolt on to stock exhaust or headers? I know this may sound stupid,...but thanks anyways
