when did honda start putting vtec on their motorcycles? its prob. a really old subject but i searched vtec in the motorcycle section and came up with 0. is the vtec really wild?

the VFR started using VTEC in 02. this bike also has ABS. i have actually looked into purchasing one of these for distance rides. from the info i gathered people said i would be disappointed in the power.

now take a step back and think about the intended purpose of the bike. sport-touring.
people also mentioned that the vtec engagement is mild. so if you are looking for mad vtack yo! this would not be the bike, stick with a sportbike.

 

well the bike i saw it on was a sportbike. it was an 2005 interceptor.

 

sorry my bad..... most people i know consider the Interceptor AKA VFR800 a sport touring bike. but to others it is a sport bike. so there is a difference of opinion on the class off bike. maybe some others could help out in this?????
i do see where you got the info from the Honda website showing in their sportbike section, so i apologize for any misinformation.

 

ABS is an option
The vfr is pretty comfortable but you can push it pretty hard but I would still say its a sport tourer.

 

sportbikes have almost race ready motor. vtec is for economy and high rpm power. where as sportbikes power is a little more important than economy. they just need power. on sport bikes they are not looking for emmisions control as much as cars, unless you buy from cali they have emissions control stuff. damn carb

 

sportbikes also have a radical cam already too

i dont want a vtec bike i was on the website and saw the 2005 interceptor and it said it had vtec so i was wonder when did they first put vtec on a bike the page i saw it on is in the first post.

The new VFR is a sad shadow of the older FG model. Since 1996 Honda have turned a class leading sports tourer into an also ran. I would go for 1988 model with 17" front wheel if it was my money.

 

Or just get an FJR

Too big and heavy. The orginal VFR was great, didnt they have an 'interceptor' with magnesium bits on over there?
