Default installing a rear view

hi, i have a 97 prelude. i need to install the rear view mirror. as some of you may already know, the mirror doesnt attach to the windshield, but attaches to the top center consol. from what i see, to screw the mirror in, you have to take off the whole "square shaped" attachment on the ceiling of the car. i couldnt pop it off with my hand, so i didnt want to mess with it. does anyone know how to take this off?

thanks

nick

by the way....also attached to this square shaped console is the lights. just so people know where im talking about

It pops off, you just gotta try hard. I think you gotta push from the back to the front and then it pops out. You won't mess it up, I figured it out myself so I think you'll be able to. From there I'm pretty sure you'll know what to do cuz it's pretty much self explanitory. My rear view fell off ahaha

Nari, why is your **** always breaking?

Can you take pictures of how the rear view mounts in on the 5th gen? It's a windshield mount on the 4th gen.

Don't try to rip off the plastic trim. That would be....premature, as it won't come off yet.

The trick is to pry off the light. Be gentle, but it will come out in at least one direction. Once you've removed and disconnected the light, everything is pretty straightforward, as it presents you with a bunch of screws that you can remove...just remove all the screws you can see.
Removing the first batch of screws will let you take off the plastic moulding that also covers the rear-view mounting point.
Then you can remove the o-ring that the rear-view mirror holds on to, and then you can remove the big mirror screw, and put it back together around the o-ring, and do the whole thing in reverse.

Flat head screwdriver works, just get it between and underneath the light and trim.

pry from the front and push towards the windshield. to replace it just take of the front ceiling light trim(look at the picture) to expose the rear view mirror screws.
