I had H&R on my ITR (now sold ). They lowerd it only 1.5" But the springs are not bad, the handling was pretty good.

H&R is who makes Neuspeed Springs (or at least used to).

I have the race springs, and I like them. They're a little too low, but it really seems to handel good in my opinion.

I can't remember their website, but RDEnterprises should have a good price on the shocks. Is there URL shox.com maybe? I don't think there site says anything about the name RDE. Look in the back of stupid street or sport compact car for their little ad. There service was great when I bought off of them a few years ago.

how much did the race springs lower your car? did u get a camber kit? cuz i would like to go w/ race springs, but i know that w/ the b16 that's an extra 100lbs on the front wheels, which would lower it probably another 1/4".

I just rode in one of my friends cars with the H&R sports and the ride was actually pretty good, He was running stock shocks too.

Default H&R Race Springs/Tokico Shocks for Sale

If you are interested, I have a set of fairly fresh Tokico blues with H&R Race Springs in my CRX track car. My driving partner just bought a set of Konis and 600 lb Eibachs (track only - way to stiff for daily driving) which we are swapping in next weekend before our first race this season at Road Atlanta.

The springs and shocks have less than 1000 miles on them (may 750 driving to tracks - 250 on track). This has proved to be a very functional set-up on the CRX. In the begining, we drove the car to the track. Now we tow it. We drove this suspension package at Road Atlanta, Roebling Road, and I even had the car up to about 130 mph at Talladega Super Speedway last year at the Super SOLO I.

Our CRX is an '88 so it should fit your '88 DX hatchback also. I'll make you a good deal on it if interested. I also have a Si rear swaybar if you have any interest in that.

Let me know.

Mike

The H&R springs lowered it about 2.25 inches all around. I love them. I know there are better springs out there, but for the money, you can't beat them. I think I paid $159 for them or something like that. That's pretty cheap for a decent spring. It's not like they're reactive or something like that.

Hey Mike, if you wanna sell the springs seperate, consider them sold!!! I have both a 90 CRX and Hatch, so the shocks won't help me out that much. Let me know though.

hmm, people are telling me that the race springs are lowering their cars differently. therealciviczc, said it lowered his 2.25" all around, and mike (yellercsp) said that it lowered his about 1.75" all around. i know they would vary b/c of slightly different weights, but i don't think it would be that drastic. anyone else ran H&R race springs? or have a picture of a hatch or crx w/ 'em?

Folks,

I have ran a set of these springs on our CRX for about 2 years now. Mostly track days and SOLO I's and 1 Improved Touring race.

I really don't know how low the car dropped, I didn't measure before and after. But, I will tell you this. While H&R calls the springs "race springs", I don't believe any serious SCCA or NASA racer runs these springs. Spring rates are too low.

If I remember correctly, H&R told me rates were about 400 lbs in front and 275 lbs in rear. While the 400 lb front is close for an IT car, most people seem to run in the 600 lb range in the rear. So, while they are plenty stiff for street and track, they are not as stiff as the serious drivers seem to prefer.

As to the amount of drop, my car, with the springs, is no where near rubbing and could probably be lowered another inch. I found the set-up tolerable for street driving. Drove the car from Atlanta to Savannah for an SCCA event last year.

If people are looking for the best pure race set-up, call Tom Fowler at OPM motorsports and order a set of Eibachs like he puts on his National Champion CRX (won ARRC 2001 in ITA). That's what we are installing this weekend when we take off the H&Rs.

I agree, they are not a race spring, the same goes for Neusepeed's race spring (they're the same spring I think). They're great for the street if you're looking for a cheap good spring that won't sag in 6 months. I like them better than the eibach prokit myself, but my friend has a civic with the prokit, and the feel is about the same.

Either way, if you're going to seriously race your car, save up and get something better. You can't expect to find a set of 4 real racing springs, new, for $150.

Here is a picture of my car about 3 years ago (yes it was running 16s back then)... you'll have to copy since it's geocities, but this was with no interior (so it was a tad bid higher), but this should give you an idea of the height...

My car still has the mudgaurds, and they are 1" off of the ground. I can't put the tip of my shoe under them. It's not low like people who are just trying to have the lowest car low, but it's low.

Keep in mind that these are old pictures, so I'm not posting them for a rating. I don't need the flames, the car has changed. I'm just posting them so you know how low it will be.

Also, in the second pic, the back looks lower than it usually looks. I think it's because of where I was parked, and because I have a bunch of my tools in my hatch.

i'm not looking for a SERIOUS race suspension set up. i just want to be able to out handle most people on the street. how tight would you say this set up is? bodyroll, etc...

The pictures are scanned really poorly though. They're old pictures. As you can tell, image is my least concern on the car. I just want it to be fun to drive... and it is. It looks different now though. Anyway here is another one that will show you the height.... http://www.geocities.com/civiczc/mar...civicjvs07.jpg

This is the spring on the front of the car....

Here is the difference between the stock and H&R rear....

Please admire the nice doormat under the spring and think about how you wish you had such a nice doormat for your house.

I'm sure geocities will block everything with their hourly limit soon!

I got a camber kit. I lowered it about 4 years ago, so at the time, the only kit I could find didn't correct much, but so far it has been really even on tire wear. It's within 'spec' for alignment, but the shop that aligned it told me it was a close call.

The camber kit was a lightspeed kit. It's actually mad by ingels (is that what they're called) or whoever it is that makes all of those kits that everyone uses.

Those are tokico illumina shocks. They've treated me good over the years. They don't bounce still to this day although, I do have them up a notch from where I used to put them when they were new. I also have the suspension techniques sway bars, neuspeed front upper, and rear lower, and it's on AVS intermediates now. I think it handels great. You can get some rear wheel action if the road is sticky enough to hold. For the most part it's tail happy, but sometimes if I turn in too quick it will push the front. I think that's due to using the front sway bar. I should have stuck with stock. As for high speed stability, it's very good. (not that I condone going fast on the street) At 100mph plus, it feels like it is glued to the road. I can switch lanes and there is no sway at all. I've maxed the speedo out, and it feels like a normal car at 80 (like you wouldn't want to come up on a tire in the road because you'd die trying to miss it, but you can switch lanes at a normal rate).

For the money I've spent, it's a very nice handeling package IMO. It's no race car, but it feels pretty good.

It's been a long time since H&R has made Neuspeed's springs. Now Neuspeed makes their own springs with different rates than the comparable H&R's.

Its probably about 2 years since anyone that I know bought a set of neuspeed or H&R springs. Back then they were still H&R although a friend of mine said the rates were slightly different.

Remember the old Neuspeed Super Touring car? It had H&R springs and H&R stickers on it. I always thought that was strange, especially since neuspeed didn't really make anything more than springs, swaybars, and tie bars back then.

i think i'm goin' w/ the H&R sport springs. i would love to have the race springs, but i'm not planning on getting a camber kit. i love negative camber, but not too much. i can deal w/ ~1.5 deg. nevative camber. does anyone have pics of a hatch w/ the sport springs on it?
