Radio replaced with OEM, steering wheel controls are not working now
Hey guys, this is for my co-worker. He replaced a radio on his 200x Accord and he says his wheel buttons are not working now. He tried putting the old HU back in (not sure what is broken with it exactly), and the buttons worked. They are just not working with the new HU. He clails that the buttons are remote (as in RF, bluetooth, etc), which I don't think is right. I think he has an EX, is it possible he got a wrong (DX/LX) headunit and this is why they are not working? Or is there something else wrong there.
Any help is appreciated, he's been bugging me for like a week now and I have no idea what to tell him. I haven't owned a honda since a 95 GSR (sholda never sold it!).
thanks

The wheel controls are definitely not rf or bluetooth. There's usually a 1 or 2-wire system which operates on varying voltages/resistances to control the functions of the HU.
But you could be right, could be a DX/LX radio... There should have been a plug with 1 or 2 wires coming out of it on the original HU... He just needs to make sure there's a receptacle for that plug on the new radio, and it 'should' work...
Don't have much experience with steering wheel controls, but it's a start..
Also, might have more luck putting this in the Audio/Video forum... Lots of knowledge in there...

normally you will need to buy an interface from companies like pac to restore the steering wheel controls. http://www.go2pac.com
however, stock to stock is a different story. i think the new/2002 radio is from an ex car that does not have steering controls so it's not built into the unit. maybe he should have gotten it from a similar v6 model?
