Default Comptech Icebox I'm not so satisfied with it

Ok so i got this thing...brand new for pretty cheap....long story short the guy quotes me 200 for the whole thing then his manager makes him give it to me at cost cuz he screwed up. so 279.00 out the door...I had to take it

but ANYWAYS... i was really upset that the box didn't seal around the filter...it just had a gap about 1/4 inch all the way around it....do you guys have that? what the hell? I didnt see anything in the box to seal it up so i guess it's supposed to be like that...anyone else concerned with that at all or should I just leave it alone?

here is what imtalking about

I am satisfied with the sound...it really makes a mean deep sound and it harmonizes perfectly with my Mugen Twin Loop...I didn't notice any gain (didn't expect any, just needed it to quiet down my car)

OEM airbox with K&N drop-in. I also cut out the inner baffling. Works/sounds great and probably flows better than most of the crap out there.

I'll try and show you guys what I mean by not sealed....maybe im missing a part...

NOVA cops in Tysons and in Alexandria kinda suck...they pulled me and said that my intake was too loud (very stupid ) and that they aren't authorized...I still have New Mexico plates so I got away with it but when i go to get it registered and smog I want to give them no reason to not legalize me

wassup. I have a comptech icebox, and the lid fits perfectly. There are two plastic ribs on each side, the only thing that I can think of is that you didn't push it down hard enough to lock it between the ribs? not really sure. I noticed a big gain over my generic SRI. post pics of the problem if that's not it.

hey bro, i've been hearing a lot of bad things about K&N filtering quality. I have one on my truck and all the toyota gear heads swear against it. I've been slowly researching it. you might want to look into it.

I saw your post on CSI. Good Luck with that... I have a feeling I'll be in your shoes when I bring my car up here next week. From everything I've heard from people around here NoVa cops seem to have no tolerence for any kind of mods.

I've always used it and know plenty of people that have to. I've never done dyno tests, but I've always been pleased. The gains always depend on the car/motor/setup obviously, but for mine, I'm positive it's better. I ran an AEM CAI with some crap filter from Advance and it seriously felt slower than the oem/k&n. I'm sure if I put a K&N on the AEM the gain would be somewhat noticeable.

I know a ton of people run em, I'm not questioning the gains, but rather the filtering capability as in letting dirt and crap through. just something you may or may not want to look into.
