Default H23A Block with an H22A Head

I was wondering if the h23 block was compatible with the h22a head. My h22a block is making a knocking noice, and the block sounds pretty much shot. We are going to take ou the oil pan and check it out tomarrow, and see if its worth fixing. If it's not, would it be wprth getting the h23 block instead of the h22? I know in japan the h23a engine has another 15 horsepower over the h22a? I'd appreciate the input!

Oh yeah, and would the h22a tranny bolt up to the h23 block?
