I have an 89' accord dx. The problem is when I start the car up and press down on the brakes, my shifter(automatic) will not move. It has a key lock feature where when the car is off you can put a key into a little insert and unlock the shifter column. But when the car is started and the brake is pressed on it should automatically enable the shifter column, right now the only way to use it is to start the car in neutral, not park, it keeps getting stuck in park no matter what I do. Any help is appreciated.

blah, i hate those interlocks. i've never had one before, but i just had to post to express my distaste for them.

 

there seems to be an electrical problem,, there should be some kind of switch when u press the brake the switch turns on n releases the lock,, i would look for this switch and the wires and check that they are all working,, check fuses u know jst take a run through.... if u cant fin dit take it to a mechanic...good luck

 

could have a bad brake switch,,,,,,,,,do brake lites work??? bad brake lite fuse???if fuse ok , jump the connector at brake switch see if it works then

 

also if the idle is set too high it wont shift either...
