So I am in the midst of swapping my 5th gear for the longer 5th gear out of an f22 tranny. However, I have run into a problem. I cannot find hardly anyone or any topics on this so I am hoping someone can help. The h22 5th mainshaft gear and f22 mainshaft gear are a little different, besides the teeth There is a shoulder on the gear (both top and bottom) that go around the diameter of the hole that the mainshaft goes through. That shoulder on the f22 gear is a little bit taller (about 1/16"-1/8") it obviously changes the clearance of the bearings above it a little bit. I can still fit everything on the mainshaft and both 5th gears (counter and mainshaft) interlock together, however I am wondering if I will be okay with it. I will post up pictures if need to show the difference between the two gears. Thanks in advance

I'd ask a shop about it. I'm pretty sure not many people here mess around with their transmissions..

anyoen know the different gear ratios of h22 f22 h23?

 

Contact "Flyrod" he tried to take a Prelude F22A 5th gear and put it into his M2F4 transmission. it did not work out. I can't remember why.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I am gonna try to have it actually machined down with a laethe(sp?) and get it to fit. Keep the suggestions coming!!

 

i had my syncros replaced by a shop and had the 5th gear swapped at the same time. the guy at the shop told me he didn't run into any problems with it, and the tranny works/shifts fine.

No, this is a different actual gear, not a standard h22 gear.

i was gonna put an h23 5th in my h22 but the gear liek you siad was to tall...just have it machined to ht esame thickness of the h22 gear and all should go well ..i didnt have the money nor the time to get mine done

Yea, I will do that then, I pm'd gearspeedef7 or something like that. We'll see what he says. I will let you guys know how everything goes. I might make a how-to on it if it works because my 5th gear will stand to be a lot longer if this does work out, no more 4krpm 80mph trips
