Removing rear side molding on '99 EK hatch.
Ok, I'm getting the car ready for paint and I want to remove the molding so that they do not just paint around it. Now here is my problem. How do I get access to the last clip on the rear side molding, the clip closest to the door? There is not enough room for me to get my hand in there. Do I have to remove the seat belt retractor or?
body shops have a tool that can easily remove that without even having to remove any of the interior. it looks like a fairly thin sheet of metal about 2"x3" with a handle on top. they use that to squeeze in between the moldings and unclip the clips from there. you should see if you can get your hands on a couple of these.
if all the other clips are out pull the molding out asa far as you can by the rear without damaging it and use a long flat head screw driver, pop the top first then the bottom while keeping outward pressure on the molding and that should work, thats how i did it and dint break any clips
