Does a brand new cat-back exhaust need to be broken in?

If so how long and under how many RPM's?

nah doesnt need to be broken into but after awhile it wont sound the same as when you first put it on.

Not only does it carbon up, but the catalyst in the converter loses some of it's
efficiency. The catalyst just changes carbon monoxide and ?forget this one? to air and water.

but to answer the question -- no it does not need to be broken in. yes the sound will change a bit.

I had just a universal muffler at one time, and after about 8 months it was very loud and boomy, whereas when I was first got it was loud and boomy but I could at least drive on the highway with it.

The sound will change a little over time, and you should have some new smells after it is installed for a bit too.

no you dont have to break it in.. just drive as you would... you'll notice some smell.. kinda a burning smell for the first 100-200 miles or so (at least i did on my Greddy cat back)..

that "burning" smell is the smell of the gaskets melting away.

gaskets melting away? it had that smell on both my Greddy SP (on my other car) and my Greddy Evo.. im assuming this is normal... i've had the SP for about 4 yrs only prob was the resonator rusted out which i got fixed..

yes....the gaskets. same thing happened w/ my greddy evo...i dont recall smelling it for more than one night though,and only a very short time.
