Emissions Legal b18c1 REX :P
some of you have witnessed distruction of my 4dr gsr the evolution of my crx on this board..well she's finally "finished" as far as the MVD knows
so heres how the **** went down....
the rex had been down and out when my tags expired. i wasnt able to re-test during the 30-day exstension so the vehicle was not legally road worthy. this factor was minor since the vehicle itself had no motor in it (stripped bolt threads in block for the drivers side motor mount). well a couple weeks after my exstension notice came in the mail i decided to get to work on the ef8 and get the motor back in the bay and running up to par. the install took a good 6 hours by myself but after i turned the key and heard the soft purr time really didnt matter. i drove it a couple days with some temp. tags i got online but i still felt "sweaty" whenever a copper was behind me
, honestly though...who in a lowered 91' si doesnt. <---- the **** prior to testing
....so after many days of probing the almighty honda-tech search button, frequent inquiries to Honda & Acura Dealership technitions, welding up new 2.5" mandrel bent SS piping from the Catco high-flow back to my super ugly sounding flat black Flowmaster 40 series with a truck tip turn down and installed my bosses 15" rotas w/ bf ta 225/50's so i could pass the 1.5" clearence the MVD strictly mandated on the dyno i felt the honda was prepped for its first snift test. i took a ride down to the Chandler Emissions building after i hefty interstate 10 jaunt to get the cat nice and hot and pulled into the first open bay i could find. turned her off and sat in the little booth not 3' away from my baby. the emissions technicians rolled a giant pusher fan in front popped the hood open with a little bar and stuffed a gross looking "sniffer" into the tail pipe then proceeded to test. the first victim was a small lady no taller than 5' who got in amd moved the seat all the way to the front. she stalled 3 times and jumped off the dyno the 4th, the next victim was a super hefty black guy who popped out of my purty si seat on both sides and proceeded to BS about my sloppy pedal feel ann how he couldnt follow the graph correctly (yeah right, "you just suck at pedal modulation jumbo!") the third guy was some 17 year old looking kid who looked like he knew what my car was and what monster of a motor was underneath the hood, this was freakishly a relief to me. he jumped in and with his first try got the wheels rolling smoothly and was able to follow the testing graph like a blind man follows the smell of fresh punnany. as quickly as he shut the rex down they had it off the dyno and being visualy inspected for my NISSAN evap can which passed (SUCKAS!) the only thing i didnt pass was the pressure test since the can was bogus and the fuel tank evap line was not hooked up at all. they pinched it with pliers and pressurized the system which didnt hold anything more than 14psi with the evap line wide open.
so blah blah bs bs she passed with flying colors, all i gotta do is pop open the little access panel for the tank inlet and outlet lines, trace which one is the breather and pinch it off at the tank. this way my can will still pass and the pressure test will hold up since it will be pinched @ the tank, WHAT THEY DONT KNOW WONT HURT EM!!!
heres my #'s
HYDROCARBONS (HC): .32 (legal is 1.00) <----PASS
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO): 1.98 (legal is 12.00) <----PASS
OXIDES OF NITROGEN (NOX): 1.33 (legal is 2.50) <----PASS
GAS CAP TEST: PASS
EVAP COMPONENTS: PASS
PRESSURE TEST: FAIL
so she's done...i passed but i didnt pass lol. all i gotta do is take a trip down to the MVD again and have then pressure test my fuel system again!!! emissions legal for two years BITCHES!!!
cliffnotes: short jumps the dyno, fat cant drive and NISSAN canister *****.
edit: mods that matter for emissions
