Help me pick my car color... a few options
I will be painting my car soon. I have a 1989 Civic Sedan LX.
At first I was thinking of paint it dark grey and leaving the moulding and front bumper mouldings black.
Then I started thinking of painting it all black.
As I'm trying to sand and primer my bumpers, however, I'm starting to see the beauty in stock bumers (all black).
So, the options are here. I need to know if anyone has experience in any of these things, and which will look better.
I realize that black with OEM bumpers may make it look just, well, all black. The level of shine will be different, however, so someone will notice.
When I speak of "OEM bumpers" I am referring to this:
when I refer to the "bottom of the bumpers painted" I mean this:

Basically I'm trying to figure out between dark grey and black, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the bumpers.

Why this and not the dark grey with dark grey bumpers and the black moulding?
Let me rephrase...
Maybe I'm not 100% sure of this, but did the stock sedans (even the LX) come with all black bumpers, or was there a difference?
Like this car for example. It has the painted bumper. Is that OEM, or is this car OEM?

Eh, not a big fan of the blue car. If I could do it over I wuld have bought a different one for this very reason. As it was, however, I was very limited on the car I could buy, so I just went with this one.
besides, someone else has already repainted it since the factory. I have to get the damn peeling paint off of this thing NOW.

I definately agree. With my blue interior, i'm thinking it will actually look cool. :D
I guess the real question is what to do with the bumper. I can't find this info anywhere else, but did the DX come with a black bumper and the LX come with a painted bumper? (See contrast of cars in above pictures). Would it looks stupid to have a LX with the black bumper? Does anyone like the black bumper? There are two fresh ones at the junkyard off of an 88 and I'm thinking of getting them tomorrow ($20 each). I'm just trying to figure out if it's better to paint it (minus the trim) or leave it all black.

Go with black. As far as I know, black was never offered on the sedans in America.
The 88/89 LX sedan bumpers were painted body color. The trim piece on the bumpers is the standard flat black, and the flat black portion extends all the way along the entire top piece of the bumper.
Look at your bumper and follow the trim line...you'll see what I'm talking about. It doesn't look bad at all IMO.

You should. The grey looks freaking fresh on the CRX. I've been wanting a gunmetal car for a while, and that CRX picture reminded me why.

paint the car helios, it's what i want my hatch if i ever get around to it. for those who don't know, it was a limited edition color for only 1500 a2 jettas, but it also was used on some cabbys. it looks great with black trim too

it's a blue gray metallic, that you have to see in person to appreciate. it changes color every time you see it.
