I juz bought my del sol about 3 weeks ago, and wen i bought it, it already had a 400 watt Jensen amp, two 160 watt alpine speakers in front connected to a set a of alpine tweeters, and two 180 watt Infinity speakers in da baq, but my problem is wen i rev da engine a loud annoying noise comes from da amp. I've asked a few places about this problem and dey all say itz somthin called "engine noise," caused by a ground wire n some other wire being too close to each other or some **** like that, neway could someone explain da problem over again n if derz a way for me to fix it, if possible, how can i fix it? tnx.

Sorry, I couldn't stop myself...

could be mulitple things...the best way to solve this problem is...
1:pul out your alpine components..make shure u get the crossover and the tweeters.
2:pull out ur infiniti speakers in the back...
3:put them in a nice lil package and send them to me...at

after that u shouldn't hear road noise anymore...nonetheless anything at all...heh

haha im just playing....but to solve ur problem it could be ur power wire is next to ur rcas....ur ground could be loose...or ur ground to ur amp is to long...another problem is u got cheap rca's...check those and get back to us..

how do i check dat? where are my wires exactly, under the carpet? da car frame? or should i check it on da amp?
im assuming the rcas are run under ur carpet just follow them from behind ur deck...and for the ground it is the black wire on the amp..or the wire connected to the terminal that says ground just follow that wire..

iight so i checked out the wiring behind my cd players and i noticed dat my speaker wires went to my amp because i had to take off half of my center consol in order to take out my cd player out in da first place. 2 set of wires went to my amp from my cd player. My ground cable iz a dark brown tranparent cable dat runs in opposite direction of my speaker cable (back toward my cd player) but only half way den itz cutoff n skrewed into da floor. Now another problem occured while doin diz, after i was done, my cd player wouldnt turn on and neither would the clock by my odometer.
i dunno how exactly dat happened.
PS: ill try to get some pix of da wiring for a more visual view.

It's hard to say without pic's, but it sounds like a wiring problem, as for the HU not working anymore, check the fuse in the engine bay fuse box, probably 7.5A [radio backup power] and post some pic's, BTW is it a stock HU?

First let me say, that's a great set of pix, I can see an number of things I would change.
1- The amp ground, the amp ground cable is "grounded" to the chassis using an anodized screw to a surface that has not been "scraped clean" to bare metal.
I would remove it from there, and use one of the machine bolts that hold the E-brake bracket to the floor pan, or if there is a bolt that goes into the floor pan closer to the amp.
2- On the 3rd pix it shows that you are not using the HUs internal amp, yet I can see the HUs speaker leads still in the plug with a short pc. of speaker wire connected to them and covered with elec. tape, but nothing at the end of the speaker wire to cap them off, in fact in pix 1 I see 2" of bare wire on the violet, [RR] speaker lead.
If you don't need the speaker leads, remove them, depin them right from the plug.
3- Also in pix 3 I see the outputs from the amp, 4 yellow speaker leads] have not only been run from the amp up to the oem radio harness and connected to the oem speaker wires, but by the looks of it by more then one butt connector on each line, I would rewire from the amp directly to the speakers, every connection you have between the amp and the speaker is a point of resistance, there should only be 2, amp and speaker, you have, on some lines anyway, 6, also all the connections and the oem speaker wire kind of defeats the purpose of the better, [yellow] speaker wire.
With the way the wiring is, [that we see in the pix] I would also want to see how the power wire is run and the connections at the batt. and if the ground at the batt. has been "beefed up"
Although a RCA crossing over a power wire should not be a problem, pix 9, I would want to see what is happening with any excess RCA cable under the rear tray, and in this case there is no reason for the RCAS and power cables to cross each other.
This is the kind of install, that if a customer came into my shop with a noise problem, we would redo from scratch. The problem my not be one "big" thing, but a combination of a lot of "little" things.

Yes, if you are not comfortable trying it yourself, I would leave it apart as much as you can, [as taking the car apart seems not to be a problem for you] you should be able to save some $$ . Take it to some shops in town and get some est.
The other advantage of having it apart is you can see what kind of job was done

iight first thing i want to say is thanks a lot to FCM and everyone that as apart of this thread for helping me out wid the wiring, and i dont know what i would have done without Honda-Tech.Com. Although, i dont hav a problem with trying to fix it myself, it just seems like theres a lot of problems that i will be unable to fix, and knowing me ill probably cause another problem, so i think the best idea for me to do is to just take to a professional and have them do it, then analyse the new wiring like FCM said, so once again tnx a lot to everyone. Peace.
