Default H22 Shifter Option: Needing Consumer Feedback/Opinions

Karcepts, Inc. is debating on providing a kit that would allow use of it's Shifter Mounting Kit where you would use an RSX shifter box, but be able to adapt 97+ Prelude cables (or potentially 98+ Accord cables which are a lot cheaper and easier to find at local junk yard). So you would have to purchase the Karcepts Shifter Mounting Kit for $175, 97+ Prelude or 98+ Accord cables, an RSX shifter box, and an additional Kit offered by Karcepts, Inc. that will adapt the Prelude/Accord cables to the RSX shifter box. The additional kit would also incorporate short shifting as well and would sell for around $50-$100.

I'm just trying to get a feel to see if people would be interested in going this route with the cost involved vs. just utilizing the old school lower profile Accord shifter and cables. The feel should be a lot better with the new RSX box being used, and I believe the short shifter incorporated into the additional kit will be a great bonus. Additionally, the shifter shaft gets placed in the optimum location and maintains the factory console and cupholders with no fuss.

This Kit has been very popular with the K-series swap, as Karcepts, Inc. has sold over 60 units within the first 5 weeks of it's offering with nothing but positive feedback.

More info can be seen on k20a.org here:

If you would be willing to express any positive or negative remarks related to this H22 shifter option, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian Karwan

Hey,

I would be extremely interested. The stock prelude shifter in a hybrid swap dosn't feel that smooth. There have been companies producing short shifter kits however I have not been particularly ffond of any of them.

The link you provided to K20 org dosn't work. If you have any pics of this housing incorporated into a civic send some pics or post them on this site. I'm sure alot of the guys in here with hybrids would be extremely interested if you have a great product.

C if U can do a litlle better on the price!

Thanks for the feedback NICEHATCH!

Here's some pictures and info of the product available for the K-swaps. My proposal would be to use this same kit on any EG/EK/DC2 with an additional kit needed to hook up your H22 cables to the newer shifter box design. To save a little more cost, a 01+ Civic (non-Si) shifter box ($40 new) can be used instead of the RSX box. I do not recommend the 01+ Civic (non-Si) shifter box to be used w/ the kit for a K-swap since the shaft height is a bit lower than an RSX shifter box; but besides that, the boxes are identical. The additional kit that I would provide to adapt the H22 cables to the 01+ Civic (non-Si) shifter box would actually include a new shifter shaft that would end up re-positioning the shift **** in the stock location that a normal D or B series shift **** would be located (so your car looks bone stock from inside). As far as short shifting, I've tested nearly every short shift kit available for the RSX/01+ Civic (non-Si) shifter boxes to observe their positives and negatives (info can be found in one of the k20a.org links I provided; you need to sign up to w/ k20a.org in order to view the links). Really, the new shifter box design of Honda's is fairly short compared to their older archaic designs. It seems like the best short shift kits for these boxes are the ones that change throw by just a little bit and not over-killing it where you end up having to fight the shifter because of any mechanical disadvantage you now have w/ a super short throw. The goal is to have the kit adjustable so that you can go from the stock shifter feel of the new box to a slightly shorter throw if desired. The other alternative might just be to thoroughly test all possible positions to find what feels the best and make its position fixed, as this would keep cost of the production units down even lower.

- High quality laser cut stainless steel construction
- Eliminates cutting into firewall for shifter cable routing
- Detailed instructions for smooth installation
- Rigid mounting base for more positive shifting feel
- Applicable for K-powered, RSX or EP3 tranny equipped 92-00 Civics & 94-01 Integras
- RSX-S shifter box recommended for LHD
- RSX base shifter box recommended for RHD
- 02-04 RSX cables recommended (05+ cables require some modifications.)
