Stuck Balljoints all the time. Any tricks??
Every time I try to separate the LCA and the knuckle the lower balljoints are always stuck, I have to put on the nut lightly threaded then lift the knuckle by the nut (putting a 17mm socket inbetween the jack and nut of course) and hit that mother ****** hard and many times with a BFH until they separate.
What can i do to make them not stick as much, Im ******* tired of having to whack that **** so much. (grease, sanding the concave part a bit, etc)
thanks

im guessing they might be going bad...from what i understand thats a symptom of them going bad,,,when the seize up like that. or over tightening them can do it too

dont torque them as much when you put them back in. thats what the cotter pin is for. i dont mean to say leave it loose, just dont gorrilla them tight.
but youre pretty much doing it the right way. sometimes i have to hit it a lot, sometimes it comes off without much effort....

Definitely use the adjustable wrench trick: pinch the wrench between the knukle and LCA, then kick down the suspension. The balljoint WILL pop apart with very little sweat.
Maybe use some anti sieze the next time you put them toether?

I do this every time, jack the suspension up, wedge a bigass wrench in there, let the jack down, and then kick the ****. It will pop loose, no problems

When you next install them, take a little sand paper to the hole in the control arm to remove and rust or burrs. The put on some Anti-Sieze. This will greatly help separate them the next time.

Take off the castle nut. Then put a jack on the hub and jack it up. Then Hit the LCA where the ball joint goes through with a BFH. Works for me.

keep the castle nut on, but loosely. it helps protect the threads in case of any errant blows, and if youre putting pressure under the threads, the cotter pin holes in the stud can collapse so keeping the nut on prevents that. its possible, ive done it before... i

I put on the castle nut loosely and then use a 17m socket on top of the jack and jack it up so the shock pushes the LCA down and then hit it with a BFH but sometimes it still takes a LOT fo whacks
