Question about a 93 B18B
Hey guys. I am a little confused. I am picking up a JDM B18B from a local shop on wednesday. The thing that confuses me is that it has an intake manifold that looks like the intake mani that with the PGMFI sticker that comes on B18A1's, except it doesn't have the sticker- it just has a little rectangle shape where the sticker normally goes... Another thing that confuses me is that the block is printed B18B, however the head is printed as a 93.
Now i've been told that 90-93 is a B18A and 94+ is a B18B. I doubt the guy had a B18B and put a B18A head on it because the motors they pick up are straight from japan and in no way modified. I have also been told that motors are actually made 1 year before they are released.
I'm pretty sure it is true that honda makes the motors 1 year before they are released, but the main thing that is concerning me is the intake manifold. Why is there the older B18A style intake manifold on the B18B.
It looks just like this, This is a picture of a B18B, but notice it has the intake manifold that looks just like the B18A manifold- Minus the pgmfi sticker.

Like I said, I was under the impression that B18B's had the intake manifolds that were smooth and dont have that rectangle spot where the sticker goes.

Theres not really anything to be confused about... If the Head is stamped 93.. that mean the the Motor was in a 1994 Car, which That when B18bs started... And as far as the intake manifold goes, Maybe the company just installed one on there or somthing.. but that is a da intake manifold
hrm are you sure? because that pic of that motor is from hmotorsonline.com and the place im getting mine from is a local shop that imports jdm motors. I doubt its a coincidence
its jdm right?....yea i have a b18b manifold in my da and it doesnt look like that ...its smooth like a itr one. it could just be in japan they didnt change the manifolds between the obds.

I had have had several B18B;s and the '94's had the heads stamped 93, b/c they were made and sold in 93. Think about it you can buy a 2006 model car and it is only 2005!
One of my LS heads is a 93 and is stamped PR4Y. Also my IM didnt look like the one in the pic.
