Default Dropping the clutch with an auto tranny.......

has anyone done a neutral drop with an auto tranny and still have in in one peice? if anyone has any experience of this...... can u please post it on here. i posted this because i did it today, but at low rpm and i didnt know if i killed the tranny. i reved it neutral, let go of the throttle, and downshifted all the way to the 1 gear. any input would be great even if it is flaming, but still put input on the subject. thnx accord community. this is a great site!

Definately not one of the brightest ideas you can do. How low was your RPM when you did it though? I used to do this (when I was young and stupid...and wanted my dad to get me a car w/ manual trans)

its not to bright. a few things can break.

CV Joints, Clutchpacks, it all depends, but yes, you can definately **** it up.

and you dont 'drop the clutch' in an auto trans, you do a 'neutral drop'

yes, shifting thru the gears manually is ok...sum will argue and say its not though, but in the manual it says its fine...

SWEET! i know it says ---- D4, D3, 2, 1 for the auto, and when u go down to 2 and 1 u have to hold down the button to switch, it's still okay to switch to them, right?

Exactly.

If you want to do neutral drops get a manual transmission.

Here's the deal.

Manual upshifting is perfectly fine. Downshifting is also fine, but as long as it's sensible. You'll know afterwards if you made mistake.

Personally, I just say leave it in D3, or D4, and be done with it.

Just press the brake pedal all the way down with your left foot. Then, use your right foot to press the gas far enough down so that your RPMs are at about 2000, or so. Take your left foot completely off the gas, and push the gas pedal to the floor. That's how I'd go about launching it.

I heard it isn't good...to do it on a daily basis. But if the conditions warrant it, it's ok.

neutral drop? i tried that for like 4 times(trying to save gas).. not good kuz it really is a setback on shifting. The auto tranny wont respond in time when you shift it back to D4, and you meight raise you rpms up high trying and the tranny will shift.. than bam your car will jerk hard and most likey fry it over time.

Im already gonna blow my 2nd tranny, and i treated this one better tho. Its just my cars time to go to heaven.

if you ever drop to neutral again, just coast the car and put it back in D4 the ecu with shift it back where it should be. i have done this before when my g/f knocked my gear out of place getting her drink.

You misunderstood what a neutral drop is, which is when you rev the engine up in neutral and then drop the tranny into drive... It's NOT bumping the tranny into neutral while moving.

wont downshifting from d3-->2 or 2-->1 wear out the clutch more than a manual tranny would? *dam, gota cut this habit*

i did the "neutral drop" at 5k rpms once, its not good for the torque converter, the tranny will be fine,

upshifting and downshifting the auto is not bad, i read somewhere that it is good for the tranny every once in a while, going from d4 to d3 is used for passing people, like going from 5th to 4th in a manual.

get a manual

Wellllll, my 2 cents: Neutral drops are something that only a DIPSHIT will do. Upshifting in an auto = stupid. The auto tranny already knows when to shift, you dont. Its smarter than you, let it do it's job mmmk? Downshifting in a manual tranny is bad for the torque converter. If you wanna drive like that, get a manual or have fun getting a new tranny.

When I first bought my auto 02 accord, I started shifting all the time. By the time I hit 40000Km, my tranny fluid was black and full of chunks and black ****...I geuss its not the best thing to do, but....I still do it occasionally for passing and if Im going slow in certain areas ill keep it in 2nd or 1st, depending.

neutral dropping is bad..no doubt bout it,..u can damage ur tranny and even break ana xle..but u kno wut, i did it all da time when i first started driving..havent broke nothing,,but i stoped when i learned bout it...but whether ur shifting from D4-D3-2-1 or 1-2-D3-D4 its fine..as long asd u dunt over rex( i thinkl we have a rev limiter anyways)..but anyways...its okay!...the set shifting points in our auto tranny will shift about a grand before ourredline, but sumtime at redline(if u mash hard enuff)..i just like shifting manually, but i rarely od it,..i mean, its a uto, its not fast anyws, i aint competing with no one, myute as well let it do its own thing...so i doubt ur racing by a quarter of a second...just let ur tranny do its own thing, ur not going to be much fatser by shifting manuaklly.....it may seemf unner, but ur just doing more ware on ur tranny and gainingm little...

quit trying to shift in a auto and buy a manual.... the auto tranny is already weak as hell and if you try manually shifting with auto its nothing close to a manual still... so basicaly its very pointless.. and it will mess up your engine/tansmition much quicker... downshifting in an auto is just ugly.. autos are not made to be manualy downshifted and up shifted and a auto tranny is not made to compinsate to downshift a higher revs.. so when you do downshift that hard tug you feel not only feels like crap... but is putting more wear and strain on your motor/tanny.. if you want your car to last just drive it how its suposed to be drivin...

I beat the **** out of rentals all the time with neutral drops, power braking, tossing the tranny into park at around 3 mph. All of these things embarass and frighten my passengers, but have never caused the destruction of a transmission. Except for an Oldsmobile Alero once...holy **** that thing was a piece...

Keep it in D3, or D4, and be done with it.
