HAHA my buddys tranny, help
My buddy has a b16 swap in his CRX and his tranny has been whining especially in 1st. It also sounds like the throwout bearing is whining badly with the car in nuetral AND OUT OF GEAR with the clutch released, you push the clutch sound is gone. I've been telling him that thing sounds ruff for about 3 weeks and needed some fluid and finally today I checked it for his dumbass because he did'nt know how without a dipstick lol. It had probably less then a qt in it. In my oil pan you could see the pan in the middle but it did'nt have no shavings at all just very lil fluid.
We looked for redline MTF but could'nt find it so we used mobile1 synthectic 10w 30 motor oil. The car was driven 30 miles and now he scaried to drive it anymore because of the whining.
Any thoughts? maybe some better fluid could help him.

No its not the throw out bearing. El vap is right, the input shaft bearing is bad. This is inside the transmission Throwout bearing make noise when you push the clutch pedal down. I have also seen clutch discs with loose springs make the noise you are desribing but that is unlikely.
I always thought the throwout bearing made noise while the clutch is released and in nuetral and this is exactly when the car does it the worst. When you push the clutch in its quiet.

It will tear up the tranny and leak oil past the seal eventually. The throwout bearing is what releases the clutch. It does not "work" until you press the clutch. With the pedal depressed, the gears do not spin anymore and the noise goes away. Pedal released engages the clutch and makes the gears spin and thus the bearing makes noise. So many people get this mixed up.
If he plans on trying to repair the tranny, it should not be driven anymore. Many people just get another one rather then take it apart for repairs. Its not a job you will want to tackle if you are not mechanically inclined. They usually have to be pretty bad to leak the oil out, but yeah whatever fluid you guys put in there could get past the seal.
my friend drove for months on a tranny with a bad input shaft bearing he even comuted to work with it. after so long he finaly got a new tranny and when i riped the old one apart there was metal shavings everywhere your better off getting a new tranny then trying to rebuild that one.
