Default 300whp at high boost on z6, what turbo would work well?

Im sick of my greddy kit and am planning to sell that and rebuild a z6 bottom end with either tuner toy or eagle rods and im unsure of the pistons I'll use yet as well. Planning to run stock head for a while at least. What turbo would fit into this setup well? Since it's going to be a stock head for the time being at least, I need boost to start spooling by 3500-4000 rpm's , so I have a good power range before hitting redline. I plan to choose a turbo and then build around that. Would either a gt28r or a t3 super 60 be a good fit? Any suggestions are welcome, TIA

gt28rs would work well. I like the gt30r or maybe a bigger gt-series turbo, but I am crazy.

really most T3/T4 combos will work and so will some decent size T3s.
if your looking for a new turbo then a .48 exhaust side with a t4 60 compressor in a .53 trim would work nicely.
T3 .48/.50 with .50+ trim woudl work but woudl take mroe effort from the turbo to match the t3/t4 one.

A gt series would be nice, but if i want a new turbo, i think they'd be out of my price range and I think I'd prefer an external gate as well.

I love my precision sc50 63/63 60 trim turbo, its just a tad bit laggy but when it comes in it feels awsome. and its good for 300+ for sure.

the gt32 has a beautiful compressor map, better than the gt30 imo.

i would go with the t3/t4 50 trim with .48 exhaust a/r. compressor is big enough that it wont die out up top, but will still spool reasonably

It sounds like you are on a budget, so I say forget the gt series. It's all about the SC50. I'm going to push mine to 380whp on my y8.

You mean your SC50 60/63 50 trim, right?

Im using the t3 60ar 63 ex 60 trim. Boosting around 18psi. I want useable power on the streets, pulls till redline and im guessing ill be almost at 300whp on the dyno

hmm...sc50 sounds nice. I AM on a budget, but I'm also looking to put together something nice. I have time to shop around and piece together something that I'll be happy with

GT28rs like BBKA said. It will get you 300hp easily and the spool time is great

Why do you guys keep telling him to get the gt28rs?!

He wants a turbo that he will like that won't break the bank and you guys are recommending one of the most expensive turbos I can think of.

I say get the SC50. Even with that, you have the choice of .48 a/r or .63 a/r so you can decide if you want slightly faster spool or better top end.

my sohc made 244 whp on 11lbs with a 50 trim .63ar on pump gas
so that turbo is more than enough for 300whp, and spool was decent

im gonna look into the sc50 and see what the prices look like, etc. Any idea what the .48 a/r or the .63 a/r would spool at?

get the .63 housing instead of the .48....My .48 dies off at 7400. My t04e makes fully boost at 4400 or so

Yeah, I would get the .63. That's what I have I would rather have slightly more lag than have my power die off up top. That would just be awful to have a turbo that doesn't pull to redline. If you get the .63 and can't stand the lag, then just swap your manifold for a log style. That'll spool it a bit quicker.

Anyway, I got my SC50 for $500 on ebay. I think they usually go for about $700, but you can get a good deal on one if you scour ebay/H-T and have lots of patience.

EL=equal length

i feel the same way with my setup with lag, i start getting traction by the time boost kicks in and its alot easier to control

GL matt on this project, like i said if you need any help just let me know
i'll search around for you for some turbo's and see what i can dig up
