Default To cut or not to cut, that is the question.

I have a turbo manifold (made out of mild steel I assume), and it has a solid flange where it mates up with the head. My question is should I put some slats (cuts) in it to allow for thermal expansion? I know that some companies do this or make the holes progressively larger from inside out. If I made any cuts they would probably be made to seperate the individual exhaust ports. Anyone done this or think I should just leave it alone??

Ok, do you cut it like I was saying? One cut in between each outlet port, so each outlet can grow how it wants or do you make cuts on the bolt holes (which I have also seen)?

Is that why flanges are never holes in a large solid piece of metal?

Exploited, could you take a picture of one of your cut flanges and mark where you made the cuts if its not obvious?

Thanks.
