Default Are all automatic transmissions interchangeable from 96-2000?

My father in laws automatic transmission went out on him in his 2001 LS. Is a automatic transmission from a 96-99 Integra compatible? I was told no. Any info would be appreciated.

Thats my only concern, the OBD2a and OBD2b. Does this in any way make a difference in the trans?

Sorry, I have no concrete answer for you, but I did look up the part #s for the transmission cases, and they are different between 2001 and 1996. The 1996 tranny housing is 21210-P56-000 and the 2001 housing is 21210-PDL-010. You might want to look up some other parts and years on http://www.acuraparts247.com and see if you can figure it out based on part numbers, or you can give a dealer parts department a call.
