OT: 06 STi? No way id trade the Type R now...
Bored as hell at work today, i decided to start looking up what the new '06 cars are looking like and i happened to fall upon this article on the 06 STi. I thought it was somewhat relevant to the Type R forum considering the STi is a common upgrade for R owners.

I think that Subaru has taken a definite fall with this one? Personally i see too much Saturn Ion in the headlights, the tailpipe is way to close to center, and the 3 section grill just looks flat out ugly. Like i said, im bored at work so just trying to get a discussion going on opinions of the new STi. Anyone else?

I heard the new styling in the front is from their new SUV they came out with. Go on subaru's website and you will see what I mean. I think it looks ugly IMO.
umm, yeah, it's going to be even better than '05 STi in performance...
so, who cares what it looks like. Looks always grows on you... more or less.
'06 STi in red = hot!

IMO, the next STi is what we in the South call "high ugly." Even worse is the Tarragon, or whatever the hell they call that new "SUV."
Apparently their new styling guy is a refuge from Alfa Romeo. No surprise there.

There is a strange thing in cars... ugliness turns into good over time.
For example, the BMW 5-series at first appeared to be ugly, now I really like it. The 7 series is still borderline. There are other cars like this... like the RX-8.

I agree that the performance aspect cannot be overlooked. But has anyone else noticed the downward spiral of Subaru styling. I think the first body style of the WRX has by far been the best looking. The STi of that body style only added more appeal to the car. But then they took a slight step down with the past body style and then took a huge drop with this latest one. Of course this is all IMO. I just dont feel this one growing on me.

for people who buy a car just for looks, its just for the sake of having it.
I am betting this new look is more aerodynamic, and made to perform.
Technology can only get better

It almost has an alfa romeo grill but I will have to wait and see what I think of it in person.
I do david that alot of new cars are ugly when they come out but they grow on me and I end up liking them
On the other end the concept cars from the big 3 usually look pretty cool but by the time they hit production they are about two years behind the times and current taste.

i dont like it, but from certain angles, it makes the car look mean. kind of like a dog that wants to kill you. you know the look.
The new front end looks hideous, but I am sure it will grow on me the more I see it. I would not trade my R for one though, that's for sure.
IMO the STi has never been the greatest looking vehicle, but the undeniable is that it performs at a pretty nice level. I would have no qualms driving/owning the 06' STi, and I would imagine that after given the chance to drive/own one neither would many of you.
Beaten by a BIG ugly stick.
But if you do ever get into a front end accident with that, you could always do a '04-'05 conversion.
I'm so glad my work place finally started offering employee discounts on Mitsubishi cars. At least now, I have an option from a watered down Evo and an ugly STi.

Gotta remember to use that on my wife,

Which are still all fugly to many of us. jOO sippin moonshine now Dave?
What's funnier is this particular style move has been pretty well publicized since at least this past January. Let's be straight now though, the Sti Was pretty ugly but went like stink, Now it is even uglier than before, and will still go like stink.
But, I'm sorry, I need to get a car that actually looks pretty good or is attractive to me at least regardless of power and or performance. Now I know looks can be subjective, but I'm gonna bet it'll be hard to find someone honest that will look at the RS version and say "hey there's a damned good lookin Alfa,,, err Subie there."

I think it looks good, better than the previous front end. Finally Subaru is trying to create a brand identity with common styling throughout the range. If we want to talk about ugly try to look at the new Forrester for more than a few seconds, it redefines it.

yes i was happy i got the 05 the 06 also has daytime runing lights and an extra wing on the rear window like the current rally car. the 300 hp and 300 ft pounds of torque will still
be the same.
be the same.

"Maybe they won't see me if I just look straight ahead and make absolutely no facial expression" LOL!
Seriously though, the '04-'05 look way better, but for the price it's such a screaming deal for the dough. Having driven an STi last evening for the first time, it's absolutely everything it's piped up to be and I've been driving ITR's for three years as daily drivers and autocrossing.
It's a shame that Honda can't put that much performance into a car for the price with the appearance of a car such as an ITR!

how come the subaru's designers always want to challenge the customer's tolerance?
