Default stay with single cam or get an LS swap?

Hey guys i found a 92 civic hatch shell and i have 2 options. Switch my old d15b7 dx motor that runs great and put it in with a ex(y8) transmission that i already have, or get an ls motor with a b16 tranny for 500 complete swap. The only thing with the ls motor is that the previous owner didnt take very good care of the motor. He only added oil whenever it was low so meaning he didnt do very many oil changes on it. It also bogs when ever you gas it hard. I dont know what the problem can be but its either my old dx motor swap for free, or a ls swap for 500 that has a few problems?

I'd stick with the SOHC for now if I were you. Why take on a beat up motor when you have a perfectly good running motor waiting to be dropped in? If you realy want a DOHC, just wait for the right one to come along, and drive your D engine for now.

whatever you do, dont buy a beat motor.

swap in the d15 and ex tranny. this leaves you with 2 possible options after that: do a mini me, or boost the d15. (or do both if you have the cash).

swap a d in there. It's a reliable motor no matter how bad you beat on it (that's what I do everyday 50 miles at least), and build a b or k whichever you prefer take your time. Then put it in while you ready.

I had my d in the car for like 3 month now constantly beating the living the **** out of it (you wouldn't think that the car could last that long with such punishment). Didn't need to replace anything (besides change oil and such) it still runs flawlesly, chirping tires in 3 gear. This will save you alot of money, that you would just spend fixing a fucked up b series (trust me been there done that) which is really expensive to fix.

Put the d in, and save for a better motor.

Swap the D-Series because it runs good, and then buy the LS motor and rebuild it while its out of the car.

def dont buy a beat motor... if he hasnt changed the oil alot that means the motor is poop.. its probably black sludge inside and something you dont want to mess with.... put that d series in and hope to boost that bitch in the future, i dont really see many options other than that... good luck

a boosted d will stomp a worn out ls b18a or b motor- proven-
Ive seen a single cam d16y8 running 9.1 comp pistons at 20 psi ( around 290 hp) stomp a 350 hp b18c bosted hatch- b series has more potential - but its all what your capable of doing - my been down both roads - i can replace my block for as much as it cost you to ship your engine ! i can fully build my engine for the cost yours is stock and run over your stock b - ! its all in potential and no never buy a worn engine - buy some thing thats been taken care of in any case !
( no intent on bashing just dont like people hatin on d !

The way I see it, LS or D, you're in the same boat. Go turbo, and get alot of power for your dollar.

Atleast you didn't spend $3k+ on a stock motor

it all depends on budget - you spend 1,500 on ls drop or more- or invest 1500 building the d. 1500 into a d engine and your block is good for 300 hp or more-
then the turbo kit . so

300 hp d turbo for 2500 dollars

or here spend 1500 on the ls motor spend 1200 or more on the turbo kit and be able to hit what 250-280 hp stock block-

these are all just guesstimates but in all the d series is better bang for the buck because he has it already- mini mi project- fully built motor dont have to worry about blowing head gaskets and all that crap- uber the d and run 12's all day

Tyler ( 400 hp ls turbo from mn) runs 12 consistantly - massive money spent
my friend tom ran 11.6 d turbo 279 hp consistantly - low budget
granted chassis was different but the money that went in was the factor to deter this arguement -

yes or like your screen name take an eg hatch h22 it and run high 12 low 13 daily !

the only option that has not been discussed yes is lsv- he could by the ls block- buy a b16 head- b16 tranny - and yes i would say this is a better investment than the d ! but a ls by it self no- granted vtec isnt every thing but it does make a difference on the line !

Ive ran both b20- then converted to b20 block / b16 head ctr cams - custom je pistons 11.1 eagle rods etc - great deal of difference-
then added the turbo and ran 12's whoopti doo-

now i run a d since that was stolen- and i have plans for a mini mi- all the money i dropped into a ghey b motor for it to be stolen! yay-
