Yeah same here, I think it's a common Honda thing. My Del Sol did it, my friend's Integra does it, and my Civic occasionally does it. The manual says something about why it does and how to prevent it, forgot what it says but I don't have the problem very often. Annoying though, embarassing when I'm leaving somewhere and I grind gears and I get the "haha loser can't drive a manual" look.
My 97 dx coupe also grinds third. It does have over 150k on it though, not all my miles. Original owner put 130k on car. No leaks and runs like a charm........
I only grinded second as well. 266miles. And then <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by e jay one »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i put it honda mtf and it helped alot.</TD></TR></TABLE>

yea its the synchros.
Reason = bad driving.
I've done this to two trannies now, it sucks, in the heat of the moment we're shifting before the clutch is in enough and it causes the grind.
SYNCHROMESH WILL NOT WORK UNLESS THE GRIND IS EXTREMELY FAINT!!!!!
I've tried it many times on both my trannies and friends as well and it doesn't work. SO don't try to swear by it, its not miracle juice.
Solution = tranny rebuild. Sucks!!!!!!!

I also experience grinding on third. it became worse when i replaced the stock shift rod with a DIY short shifter. The faster i put the shifter into third, the harder it grinds. I was wondering if removing the third gear and installing it so that the synchromesh would be half a tooth advanced compared to the dogs might solve the problem? anyone tried re-timing the gear or the synch?

sucks don't it.

Mine grinds going into 2nd sometimes but this is only if I shift to hastily. If I wait and dont try to slam it into second it doesnt do it at all. I think by waiting and allowing the RPM's to drop a bit more to where they need to be for second it goes in smoother. I'm not sure that is just my self diagnosis. The reason it doesnt match up by itself is probably worn 2nd gear syncro, but Ill just shift a tad slower and deal with it.
Oh yea, I got the reverse grind too sometimes. Not sure why and it also doesnt go in reverse all the way at other times. Kinda embarasing with someone in the car when your trying to back uphill out of a parking space and you roll foreward and the engine just revs.
I think after my clutch is replaced I will make sure they put in either that Syncromesh stuff or RedLine MTL.

My third gear grinds all the time if I shift fast at a high RPM (8300+ RPM).
My second sucks so bad though. I have to baby it into second most of the time.
I tried SynchroMesh, and it didn't do a thing for me.

The major promblem with grinding transmissions can be traced to crapy motor mounts. I would check them over. Or get some from hasport. And if I put my car in first than reverse, it does not grind.
And yes I have had the same grinding 3rd promblem. But not anymore.

When my DA made grinding noises in third a bad rear mount was the reason... swapped it out and no more grind.

Yeah, note to you all.
If a gear doesn't want to go in, don't force it in.
You might end up with a hole in the casing. Trust me, I know.\
It happened to me last night.
