Default 99 Accord alarm keeps tripping. Why??

'99 Accord EX with factory alarm. Alarm keeps going off without anything obvious triggering it (only happens when the car is locked, of course). In other words, it'll be sitting quietly, then the alarm triggers for no apparent reason. This just started a few months ago - never had a problem in the 5+ years I've owned the car. It happens intermittently, but more frequently as of late.

I've tested and ruled out both keyless remotes. Battery level indicates charged, although I haven't had it tested.

1 mechanic thought it was a bad sensor, or possibly a wiring short. Another said it could be the computer, and suggested a visit to the dealer.

Any suggestions? I can't keep leaving my car unlocked!

I would check the door closed switches first, other than that it could be the lock switches as the alarm in the accord goes off if you unlock the door from the inside of the vehicle when it is locked.

Check hood and trunk switches - may need to be cleaned / lubricated...

Does the car still have the origianl battery installed? Could be going bad. Just an idea.

FYI, you can lock the doors with the door switches instead of the remotes. This locks the door, but doesn't turn on the alarm. At least that is how it works on my 99 accord LX with the OEM alarm/keyless system installed.

Good Luck, Chris
