Can't decide on tires, need some advice.
first off, anyone know anything about these tires?

The Falken Azenis Sport
I'm looking for a good tire to go on my 16"x7" rotas. they don't make the kumhos in 215/45/16, and I'm starting to think that 225/45/16 would buldge too much on a 16" rim. 205's, IMO, are too narrow. anyone have a tire I should look at, or have any advice?

nope...don't know much about that tire...but it looks like you won't have a whole lot of traction if you take turns very fast due to the lack of tread on the outside!...just my thoughts!

The Falken Azenis are also very popular with the autocross crowd. As soon as I can afford a second set of rims, these will be my summer/autox tires.

cause yo mang.. if u got more dem lines on the tire.. then it be supper grip dawg!
but these ones be looking like they bald already.. cause soo much tire patch.. so they must suck yo..
yo dawg.. tenzo R got a new tire...check it out.. its da bomb.

Falken Azenis are a good choice, much better than the Kumho 712's.
I don't know if they helps you any, but my friend has Toyo 215/40/16s wrapped around his stock SH wheels. I asked him and he says he's fairly sure they would make a 215/45/16 also, but he's just assuming they would. They are a pricey tire though, he paid 130 each for them....so I don't know how much you are wanting to spend, but I thought I'd throw out another tire brand to you. He really liked these tires, and they still have great tread on them after LOTS of hard driving (had them for over 9 months)
Sorry I don't know what Toyo series tire it is, I'll have to get back on that.

These tires are very good tires compair with street tires, coz these tires are for racing, and they are semi-slicks..so u know even the best tires can not compair with these ones, but they not last long coz they have a very good grip. Yeh, for the ppl who don't know about this tires pls don't say anything about it if u are not sure. They are the cheapest for the semi-slicks tires.
I'd love to run kuhmos as well, but I'm worried about the 225/45/16 not fitting the lude well.
yes, 225s will fit on a prelude fine... i have heard storries about some SCCA racers fitting 245s!
Those tires are falken Azenis, and yes, they are awesome in overall traction... They behave much like a DOT race tire, just slightly less traction.. They will make a humming noise down the street, and are mediocre in the pooring rain, and terrible in snow.. But you can't beat it for an extreme performance summer street tire..

Next time, if you have NO CLUE what you're talking about, please don't reply. Misinformation only serves to confuse, not help.
Simmer down, you said nothing about WET traction in your previous post. You were talking about "taking turns fast," which the Azenis happens to do extraordinarily well.
I'm about to buy tires too.
I currently run Yokohama A520s on my SH. Stock size, 205-50-16. I am on my second set. I love them, but they wear out fairly quickly. I do drive hard, but in about a year of driving, or 15,000 miles they are crap.
I am thinking of buying some Toyo T1-S Proxes...any of you got any info on those. I found a good deal in So Cal. buy 3, get the 4th one free! At $139 each, that's not bad. I think they "list" for $180 each or something nuts.

yes but taking fast turns sets the weight distribution out to the far edge of the tire and all the pressure in the tire goes to that area...when the tire has no tread in that area it is more likely to slip or not perform to it's potential due to the extra weight placed on that area...this also is not a good thing in the rain either due to the lack of tread and small exiting canals for water to escape a lot of hydro-plaining will occur and i don't even see why you would keep rims and tires on if you live in a place with a lot of snow...but i'm just putting in what i know for fact and whatnot...so if you have a car that just goes straight down the track then that tire should work pretty well for you! i don't know about the whole autoX though...but water with that tire wouldn't be a good mix!
nickh2k1,
You are correct about tread and rain. With regard to dry conditions, however, one of the biggest factors in cornering traction is contact patch on the outside edges of the tire. The fewer tread lines there are, the more rubber is in contact with the ground when you are in a turn. Thus, better sticking. In fact, having too deep of a tread causes squirming and deformation of the tread blocks, which is very detrimental to traction.
Of course there are many other factors, such as the stickiness of the compound, the stiffness of the sidewalls, the tire pressure, the amount of negative camber, etc.
Take a look at F1 racing (or pretty much any other form of dry pavement racing). You'll note that race slicks are, well, slick.
Once again, though, you are absolutely right about rainy, gravelly, or snowy surfaces. Tires like the Azenis are no good for things like that, not only due to their tread pattern, but also due to their very soft compound, which hardens as temperature drops.
As a personal note, I have actually found the Azenis to be pretty good in the rain. Not stellar, but pretty decent overall. They ROCK in autocross, almost approaching Kumho Victoracers. Almost. Oh, and they do hum quite a bit, another drawback to large tread blocks.

I'm starting to think that 225/45/16 would buldge too much on a 16" rim.
i loved them for that extra grip. go for 225's
