Default O2 sensor question

I haven't been around Hondas for a while, so this may be a dumb question (yes I tried searching) but a guy on a local board I am on is having some o2 problems. Can a five wire 02 sensor work on an EF? Just connect the hot wire and the ground? I have more experience with obd2 equipped cars/emissions, so I just thought I would pick H-T's brain instead. Thanks in advance guys.

A five wire Oxygen sensor is out of a VX correct? Which means it would be a wideband Oxygen sensor of sorts. And if so, try to hook up as many of the wires as possible -
Oxygen Content - Hook up to stock wire
Ground - Thermostat Housing
Oxygen Heater - Ignition On 12V
Ground - Thermostat Housing
Fifth Wire - ???

The output voltage of the VX O2 sensor is not the same as a 1 wire or 4 wire (heated) O2 sensor. Unless you are using a controller and do some sort of datalogging, I would stick to the factory style O2.

So it uses a full 5 volt range instead of the standard 1 volt?

It uses a range of about 1.4V (10:1) to about 2.90V (20:1), with about 2.5V being around 14.7:1... much different than a standard narrow band O2.

well the guy bought the car with a 5 wire....any way to actually make it work correctly (without further investment) or should he just buy a 2 wire and call it a day?

He should just purchase a one-wire replacement and call it a day.
