Default Shifting into 5th on the Dragstrip

Hey everyone.
Here's my situation. I took my car to the track, running on 22 inch slicks mounted on 99 si rims. Anyway, I had to be in fifth gear at the end of the track for about 25-30 yards. Do you think a bigger size tire will cure the problem. I'm guessing either a 23 or 24 inch tire. And will those size tires fit a eg hatch lowered 1.5 inches. Thanks

Definitely need a bigger tire. 23 and 24 will fit a stock wheel well. How much power are you making? What are you trapping?

I'm making 300 whp, 210 wtq. My trap speeds were around 104, which is about where my 4th gear ends.

That's what I was thinking^^^. What is your rev limit/Tranny setup that is only allowing you to be @ 104mph in the top of 4th?

As far as I know, my tranny is a gsr with LS 5th gear. It has quaife limited slip, but otherwise stock. Also, my motor is a boosted b20, non vtec. Redline is 7500, and thats where I'm at when I finish fourth gear for about 105mph. You guys think I may have a different final drive in the tranny?

i was redlining my b16 tranny in 4th at 119-120mph on 22x8x13 tires. that was at around 9k but thats still a 16mph difference. for a gsr tranny to top out at 104mph in 4th at 7500 rpm doesnt make sence

according to this:

http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi

hes right

plug in the 22" tire, 4th gear 107.9 at 7500 rpm

change redline rpm to 9000 and you get a top speed in 4th of 129.5

sounds like a stock final drive to me

yea im in the same boat with my ls with gsr tranny. i have to go into 5th on 22in tall slicks. i am getting rid of them for something about 24 in or so
shifting 4 times in a quarter miles takes up a lot of time

5th is not a overdrive so it's not the end of the world shifting into 5th. 22's may be right for your power but you may get by with 24's. I had good luck with 22's shifting into 5th.

his problem is having a gs-r 1-4 and a LS 5th.. going to drop a bit of rpm shifting, says he would end up at 5179 rpm in 5th shifting from 7500 in 4th..

definately time for higher rev limit (valvetrain to match) or some bigger slicks
