Default transmission recall

I have a 2000 LX 2.3 auto and recently heard about the tranny recall. When I went to the dealer and asked if my car was affected by this recall they ran my VIN # and told me that my particular tranny was not affected by that recall. I had assumed that it covered all the auto trannys. Does anyone have any info on why exactly this recall took place and why it did not apply to all of the autos.

4cyl are hit and miss. I work at a honda dealer in ther service dept. If they ran your VIN and its not on there then it wasn't affected.

Wow - the misinformation on this subject is mind-boggling. Even a "Honda service" employee doesn't know the right answer?

It was NOT a recall - it was a Service Bulletin informing everyone that the transmission warranty on ALL 2000 and 2001 Accords (also some Preludes and Odysseys) would be extended to 7 years / 100k miles.

See below:

SERVICE BULLETIN 02-062

Warranty Extension: Accord, Odyssey, and Prelude Automatic Transmission
(Supersedes 02-062, dated May 28, 2004)

BACKGROUND
In certain vehicles, a higher than normal number of automatic transmissions may have defects in material or workmanship that could cause premature wear or
failure. To ensure that customers have adequate warranty coverage, American Honda is increasing the warranty on the transmission and the torque converter
to 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of 1999 Odysseys were mailed a notification of the warranty extension. Owners of other affected vehicles were mailed the notification in October 2002.
A copy of the notification is at the end of this service bulletin. This warranty extension does not apply to any vehicle that has ever been declared a total loss, or any that has been issued a salvage, branded, or similar title under any state’s law. To check for vehicle eligibility, you must do a VIN status inquiry on the iN.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
If standard diagnostics confirm an internal problem with the torque converter or the automatic transmission, replace the affected unit.

First off I never said that I was a tech. Second this has been up dated to include 02" model years as well.

There has even been a tranny oiling up date kit that has come out for those years and some new modles.

Really???? Would you mind sharing the official document with the rest of us? Apparently some 20,000 members on 6 different Accord boards haven't been able to find it yet....

Wow - you are really a fountain of misinformation. The "oiling update kit" (or oiljet to those of us who actually read Honda literature) was part of the 7th gen tranny recall for 2003 and early 2004 model year Accords (and some Odysseys and Pilots). This had nothing to do with 6th gen Accords (1998 - 2002 model years, in case you didn't know).

Please do not post on this site unless you can back up your statements.
