Hi, my head is knocking and I'm taking it to my friend to help me with the adjustment. I need the Exhaust and Intake and any other spec that I need to know about doing a valve adjustment. Even better if you can point out to me a website that has pictures and stuff that'll make it a lot easier. thanks in advance

Go to Matco, and search for 'valve adjustment tool'. It's about $40, but it's well worth it.

 

My friend got the tool its just that he doen't know the intake and exhaust for a b16 head. Nor do I. So I need the whole spec as to adjusting the b16 head properly.

 

Helms or Chilton's will go a long way. It helped me with that as well as many other things. Also, is your motor knocking or your head "ticking?" If it is just ticking, then the valve adjustment is probably all it needs. If it sounds more like a "knocking," then it is probably something internal.

No prob. I bought mine from the dealer, before I knew they were available online, and paid $80 for it. You can get them cheaper here: http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r= but I've heard their service can be a bit slow.

For alot of things it's okay. There is alot of wrong info in them though, so I would never trust specs from them.

 

Oh, that's right. Have you ever gotten a Haynes? I haven't used Chilton's in forever, I just got them confused. If you have used a Haynes, how would you compare it to a Helms?

I have a Haynes for my Civic that I bought while waiting for my Helms to arrive. There's really no comparison to the two; Chilton and Haynes are pretty much interchangable. The Helms is a fantastic manual, and I use it all the time.

 

But what Helms do you buy? If I buy the civic one it doesn't have the b-series engine (or does it?). Or do I buy the Integra one that doesn't have all the other civic components.

That depends on which year engine it's coming from: OBD2- 99-00 SI helms, OBD1-94-95 Del Sol


I have the civic, del sol, and integra helms because of past uses of the the D16Z6, B16A3, and B18C1 engines.

BTW the Haynes manual comes in second to the Helms. The chilton is a waste of money.

 

When you pop you hood open?, the valve lash specs are located at a sticker, inside, if you look up right under the hood its self. .007 intake .008 exhaust.. and the exhaust is the one closer to you, where the exhaust manifold is closer to. then the intake is the one farther and closer to the intake manifold. makes sense?
I do suggest you get a helms. it helps, so you dont mess it up. You also have to put the engine TDC each cylinder you have to do it on. ohhh do invest on the valve lash tool and feeler guage. youll need both every 30,000? miles or so.

 

Just to let you know, the head is still gonna tick a little when done. The dc header is thinner then the stock header, allowing more sound to come threw.

the del sol manual has the B16A3 and D16Z6 engine info but not the civic itself. And yes the 92-95 civics have their own helms manual.
