Is my subwoofer ruined?
Today when i got in my car, i noticed a rattle noise coming from the stereo bass.. not good. But i didnt think it could be blown or anything since it was working perfectly yesterday, and i hadnt had it at unusually high volume or anything.
Upon closer inspection of the subwoofer, it looks like the cone has become separated from the rubber ring that surrounds it for a couple of inches. I think when the cone is hitting the rubber its making the rattle noise.
Sub is a 10" Alpine Type-R. Is it time to buy a new one?

</TD></TR></TABLE> It can be repaired, first is it still under warranty? If so Alpine will replace it, if not, any good quality contact cement should work, use something to hold the separation open, apply a thin layer of the cement to both surfaces, do not over do it with the cement, but make sure you cover all the original glued surface allow to set up according to cements instructions, remove whatever you used to hold it open and very carefully press the the surfaces together, being careful to line them up.
I have done this more then a few times, and it has worked very well.
BTW carefully check and see if the cone is about the separate any place else

PS..... Remove the speaker from the box to do this, you will need to get at the back of the cone.
