Valve Adjustment done- Now Car doesnt Idle as good?
I dont know what happened here...
My motor was freshly built, and When i built my motor I didnt have the tool, And Without it, I could NEVER get my adjustment right... After 5k on the motor after a nice breakin, it was ticking like hell at anytime at idle..
So i adjusted them with the snap on tool and Its 100% nice and quiet now, But I noticed right after I did it my Idle quality wasnt as good anymore. Rougher/lower idle kinda reminded me of a loose plug wire..
Engine is SMOOTH after idle all the way to redline. No misfires or anything..
When I pull to a stop and push the clutch in my rpms fall real low, But pick up, like the ECU sees it and picks it up. Smells A tad rich at idle when first started (But this could just be fast idle ) I dont notice anything after Its warm.
Ive checked my plug wires repeatively For any signs of a loose connection.None found.
Two things I havent done:
1. I removed my plugs to turn the motor over easy, could a slightly bent gap or anything do this or would it be a bad misfire?(remember car is smooth through all rpms after idle)
2. Reset ECU - Could It be a possiblity that if my valves were seriously loose, enough to throw something off and make it run richer at idle? Like if the valve stayed open longer due to how loose it was?
What would happen if it was too tight?
Any suggestions Would Help

I'd reset the ECU first (always ALWAYS reset after doing work). Let us know how that goes.
It could also be a vacuum hose.

I have the exact same problem after I did the valve adjustment. I reset everything but still get it. I might compensate the tight adjustment. By retarding the cam timing a lil bit.
Also I get an Code 41 too rich or too lean.
It's pretty annoying having it drop idle like that.

Is this a symptom of a too tight adjustment?
I dont mind redoing it-- Just wondering where I went wrong..

It can be. On my Civic, I adjusted the valves, reset the ECU, and had this HORRIBLE problem of a low idle. At times, the engine would even stall out at stop lights. I checked everything----timing, idle speed, plugs, wires, etc. Couldn't figure it out! I finally gave up and took it to a local Honda dealer. They said the valves were adjusted too tightly.
So they readjusted them and all was well. So might go ahead and check valve lash.
