Default BFG Drag Radials=slower trap speed

So I took my GSR powered DA to the track a while back. Ran pretty good on street tires. So I figured i'd take my buddy's drag radials and see if i couldn't break into the 13's! Well needless to say it slowed me down. My fastest time before was on 195/50/15 Rota's and Yokohama ES100. The drag radials are 195/60/14 on some steelies. I'm guessing the taller diameter wheel/tire slowed me down. What does everyone think? Maybe I just don't have enough power for the drag radials. Here are the time slips.

Street tires
60'... 2.27
1/8... 9.23
1000... 11.95
1/4... 14.26
MPH... 97.7

Drag Radials
60'... 2.08
1/8... 9.20
1000... 11.99
1/4... 14.38
MPH... 94.7

what was the temp. on both dates? humidity? those could be a factor.

You know I thought about that too. the temp was prolly cooler the night I was on drag radials. I mean there's a big factor somewhere as to why I ran 4 mph slower but almost same time. But with a 2.0 60' on drag radials it should have run faster? Am I wrong?

i'll give you a hint, weight both tire/rim set up and post what you find! that might have something to do with it! also measure how tall each of the combo is, one might be taller than the other!

what was your mph in the 1/8 mile from your time slip it looks like some thing happened up to. maybe your 3-4 shift was off a little the night you were on drag radials. also hooking up better will lower your trap speed. What concerns me the most is that you shaved almost 3/10ths off your 60ft held it through the 1/8th and then it disapears and you end up running a 1/10 slower on radials.

Hmm, good observation. I know it doesn't have anything to do with my 3-4 shift, whoever said that. Like I said I think it's the heavier/taller wheels that slowed me down. But i'll post the 1/8 MPH for bubba.

EDIT: mysteriously my time slip on radials, the 1/8 MPH slot is blank Damnit. Oh well. On street tires it was 78.5 MPH

yeah after looking at it agian tire/wheel combo probably took it's toll. you choped like 2/10ths off your 60ft but you did'nt really gain anything down the rest of the track. you were actually a little slower after 1/8 which is very strange. I am not as concerned with the low mph as I am with the slower et.

My car is running strong. I think i've decided it has to do with heavier wheel/tire. Plus, while i was there, my last 2 runs I heard a loud grinding/vibration coming from the engine bay when i shifted. I kinda thought it was the engine hitting the hood since it's swapped and it "barely" rubs. But upon closer inspection, I noticed my crank pulley all chewed up on the edge!?! So when i was changing my brake pads I noticed a huge gash cut outta my traction bars Well from that point I obviously noticed the crank pulley and traction bar came into contact at least 3 times. That's the noise I heard. What happened was the bracket that bolts the bar to the control arm bent upward and caused the bar to hit the crank pulley under suspension flex So I called the manufacturer and they are sending me a set of brand new bars, supposed to be a new design so it apparently has happened before. I don't know how my 186hp bent that steel bracket but it did.

I saw it, those things got chewed up, chase i found a site that compares tire sizes to others...

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I cant remember what size bfg's rich has,i thought they were on his gsr blades at one point, which would make them 15's. I thought you guys said it was a 225 tread width, if thats so they only make a 225/50/15

If you compare that to a 195/50-15 this is what i got...

195/50-15 3.8in 11.3in 22.7in 71.2in 889 [0.0%]
225/50-15 4.4in 11.9in 23.9in 75.0in 845 [5.2%]Bigger

Here's with the 195/50-14...

195/50-15 3.8in 11.3in 22.7in 71.2in 889 [0.0%]
195/60-14 4.6in 11.6in 23.2in 72.9in 869 [2.4%]Bigger.

This may have been a factorif you were using the 225/50's, though losing that 4mph is alot. Those revs are what you are looking at, you are definelty spinning the tires faster with the 195's. But im thinking the biggest factor between your runs is definetly the elevation.I remeber running in phx, i would hit .5-.7 faster than running in tucson, and they are about 800 ft apart in elevation. Im hoping to hit the track tomorrow, hope i cant hit that 100mph ive been wanting. I have a secret wepon this time Wish me luck. And dont get too drunk on the river.

the traction bars are full-race. I really like em other than the fact that happened but a new design is out and i'm supposed to get a new set As soon as I get the new one's on i'll get pics up of the old one's and the bracket that bent.

Chris, I was thinking.... correct me if i'm wrong but if I went 14.3 on drag radials but went 4mph slower, wouldn't that mean if I ran with street tires here in Oklahoma, it would be faster than in Memphis. I mean the times were .1 different but slower trap so if I just ran smaller wheel/tire it would go faster here. Anyway, hope you do well at the track tonight. I don't know what kinda "weapon" you have planned but if it's forced induction imma kill you. And last weekend you said you were gonna run and you didn't so quit being weksos and GO

Elevation is a HUGE factor, even more so than the size of your tires. I dont think that a 1'' smaller tire will give you back the 4mph, when you run better 60' say on slicks or DR's your trap does go down some.

Dude, I don't understand how Memphis is THAT much different in elevation than Oklahoma. It's directly East. Anyhow i'm not too concerned. All I know is that with street tires, how could I not get the 4mph back? What you are saying is not adding up to me nor does it really matter at this point. My car still runs 14's so we'll wait to see what happens after some new parts come in Oh and uh, how did your session go Friday night, or did you not make it there again?
