Honda Tuning magazine did a nice all motor build up on a 3rd gen. integra with a $10,000. budget and were able to run 13's with it. That $10,000. included buying the car so I think you would be able to make your engine bomb proof with your $5,000. I would look into rods and pistons and for sure get some head work done!! That way if you build up your bottom end now and are able to run 12's and 13's on all engine setup you can always throw a turbo on that bad boy and really tear up the track

I actually figured out what im going to do and its going to be sick
stuff man. Im gettin a b20 block and im gettin it sleeved and then im
getting a b16 head and im going to build it till i can tbuild itno
more....then after those are all said and done ima put it together and put it
in my car...And by sleeving the b20 block i will be able to turbo it
later and i could run like close to 20 lbs of boost because the motor wil
hold it...But if you can find a b20 block then let me know or a b16
head.....i would love to get started when i can...thanks

Hmm I would suggest you do a lot of reading before you go LS/VTEC route. You can always just get a B18B sleeve it and turbo it later.

sounds like you have a lot of research to do , youll have to decide if you want to do an all motor build or turbo build. if you plan on boosting youll have to build a low compression motor, if you plan to stay motor your gonna want high compression. if your interested in boosting check out the fi forums, lots of good info there. good luck

i think lsvtec would probably be a good way to go. to get any real power out of that motor, he's going to have to take it apart and bump the compression anyway. with 5k you should be able to build it pretty strong.

Well he doesn't have to bump the compression. The B18B comes 9.2:1 stock so it's ok for boost and can hold what 6-7 pounds of boost safely? I think some people have taken them to 14psi stock internals. Either way he doesn't really know what route he wants to go so it might not be a good thing to do lsvtec + boost. Might end up having a bomb instead of an engine.

i guess i just got confused because first he said he wanted to go all-motor, then he said he wanted to go turbo, so it all depends on him. ya can't have both!

the compression is fine for boost, although i would personally go with forged rods and pistons, but if you decide on all-motor, you will want to bump the compression.

A good way to make decent power all motor is to use the B20B/Z block but ditch the 89mm crankshaft. The B20 block is the same as your B18A1 block but it has 84mm sleeves instead of 81mm. By putting in a B18C crankshaft and rods in the B20 block, you DE-STROKE the engine and lower the piston speeds. This way you get the best of both worlds. You have the B18C's ideal stroke that is safe to revv high to utilize high lift camshafts, but with added displacement of 84mm bore. It yields about 1830cc like an LS/VTEC but the added displacement over the 1797cc B18C comes from bore size and not stroke. All in all, you have over 1800cc's and can safely revv over 9,000 (not stock) without worry.

yeah, Well I seen a guy put a b20 block with a b16 head on it and hes runnin 13.01 all motor in a civic hatch. So he told me that if i sleeved it (which most people dont do tothe b20 but...) and then boosted it then it would be hella power for the weight of my car....i just want something fast as **** so right now the b20 block and b16 have been my best bet...because his is nasty and mine boosted would be ever more power ....
